The steelworks operates 41 SENNEBOGEN material handlers in the port.
In the heart of a large industrial area in southern Turkey, operations run at full capacity around the clock. It’s hectic, with countless trucks passing by. Cranes and ships dominate the scene. Right here is one of Europe’s most modern steel plants: Tosyali Demir Çelik. Within a very confined space, the globally operating steel manufacturer produces around four million tons of flat steel per year. To manage this immense flow of material, Tosyali relies on 41 material handlers from SENNEBOGEN.
PORT AND STEELWORKS OPTIMALLY INTEGRATED

A total of 41 material handling excavators from SENNEBOGEN ensure the smooth flow of approximately 13.5 million tons of material between the port and the steelworks.
The Iskenderun site combines steel production and its own seaport in close proximity. Around 400 employees work here, handling approximately 13.5 million tons of materials of all kinds annually.
Steel scrap, iron ore, coal , and other bulk goods are transported directly from the port to the adjacent steelworks . The resulting steel products, including coils, profiles, pipes, and rolled products, are then shipped from the port to destinations worldwide. A high-performance and reliable flow of materials is crucial for this process.
41 SENNEBOGEN material handlers
To reliably manage this enormous material logistics, Tosyali needs a versatile fleet of material handling machines :
“Between the port and the steelworks, Tosyali operates 41 SENNEBOGEN material handlers of various sizes,” explains Okan Gök , mechanical engineer at SENNEBOGEN service and sales partner Forsen Makina .
The range of applications extends from the compact SENNEBOGEN 835 E , ideal for sorting and feeding tasks, to the 895 E , the world’s largest material handler , which ensures continuous ship handling at the port pier.
Green port giants with maximum range
As one of the first port customers, Tosyali invested in six SENNEBOGEN 895 E material handlers in 2021. Together with SENNEBOGEN, a configuration was developed that later became a reference solution for numerous other ports in Turkey.

Electric drives as efficiency drivers
A clear trend in port handling is the switch to electric drives. These not only reduce local emissions but also significantly lower operating costs. Compared to diesel-powered machines, savings of up to 80% in operating costs are possible .
Electric drives in port handling…
“Most of the machines at Tosyali are electrically powered, which is significantly more cost-efficient than operating the machines with diesel engines.”

Reliability through strong partnership
The high availability of the machines is guaranteed by SENNEBOGEN’s service and sales partner, Forsen Makina, which serves customers throughout Turkey . The high level of customer satisfaction is reflected in the number of units sold:
“In this region alone, we have sold around 200 machines . Across Turkey, the figure is between 800 and 1000 machines , primarily for port handling and recycling ,” emphasizes Gök.
