Carlsberg orders a customized Konecranes reach stacker

Danish beer company Carlsberg received in November a new reach stacker for their brewery in Fredericia in southeastern Jutland, Denmark. Specially adapted for the commercial factory environment, it’s replacing an older model to upgrade and further improve efficiency.

Established in 1847, Carlsberg is one of the world’s largest beer producers, with 75 breweries in 33 countries and over 40,000 employees. Their Danish brewery is in Fredericia, in the heart of Denmark, where they move beers, ciders, and a steadily increasing selection of non-alcoholic beverages around the site every day. Carlsberg products are stored and transported in tanks and special containers on legs, so to maximize the efficiency and flexibility of their logistics, they rent a number of lift trucks. They acquired a Konecranes SMV 4531 CB5 reach stacker in 2013. The machine has proved so popular with their drivers and been used so much that it needed to be replaced.

With this new delivery, we were impressed that Konecranes could again offer us whatever tailoring we required.”

The new reach stacker is a Konecranes SMV 4531 CC5, and represents the next generation in lift trucks. A regular model lifts 45 tons, but this particular vehicle has been customized to handle 50 tons at 2000 mm. Carlsberg has chosen a wide range of options, including special twistlocks to ensure secure loads, a truck and spreader equipped with Lincoln central greasing to simplify maintenance, plus a reverse camera and three fire extinguishers for heightened safety. In addition, special electric heating for its engine, transmission, cooling water, hydraulic oil, mudguard mirrors and the cabin keeps the entire truck warm so it can operate during the harsh Nordic winter.
