My name is Tania Nkodo, I am a Management Assistant at SMT Cameroon. It all started with an internship, then I signed a long-term contract which today allows me to manage human resources, assistantships and the office.

I am passionate about vehicles, cars, engines and it is always interesting to be able to make the difference in a world that is totally different from the field you were trained in. It’s the taste for new things that brings me to this industry.

My daily challenges at SMT are to be able to work efficiently, do things well and do them quickly. The question of legitimacy no longer arises at SMT, today women find their places, we have women in the aftersales department, we have women in administration. Each of them today are laying foundation for SMT to grow. The support I receive on a daily basis from SMT is teamwork, we help each other, whether at work or in an extra-professional setting. We are a team and we support each other in difficulties and learning.

The key to success for me is doing what you do with a lot of love and loving what you do. Three pieces of advice I can give to a young woman are to be self-confident, to be professionally curious and to have the spirit of a winner.At SMT, you can find ourselves handling sales, aftersales or administration if you have the capacity and the necessary means to do so. For me, a value that is close to my heart is respect, professional respect, respect for work and respect for the effort made.

On October 28, 2021, SMT Benin organised an open day event in their premises in Cotonou to showcase the Volvo Construction Equipment excavator’s range.

This was an opportunity for the team to welcome around 40 guests to introduce them to the SMT network as well as our aftersale services. On display at the entrance were two Volvo EC210DL crawler excavators which allowed a presentation and a demonstration of the equipment.

Do you remember the story of Judicael, young intern at SMT Benin in partnership with Terres Rouges association?

One of the projects of Terres Rouges association is training and professional support for young people at risk in the street. Six months ago, Judicaël joined the Beninese team of SMT Africa to start an internship as a mechanic. Judicaël was able to take advantage of this unique opportunity to acquire new mechanical skills, but above all to show all of his motivation, determination, perseverance and rigor in his work.

Throughout his internship, his managers appreciated his qualities and saw in him all the potential that only asked to be put to good use despite a complicated life path.

For all these reasons, SMT Benin decided to offer Judicaël a 1-year fixed-term contract as an assistant mechanic.

Today Judicaël has found a job but also friends he can count on. The story of Judicaël is a unique example for all the young people who live on the streets and a magnificent recognition for the workers of Terres Rouges who help these young people to find their way.

The latest open house event was held in Tarkwa Thursday, 23rd September 2021 at the SMT premise where customers and guests present were ushered into a wide range of Volvo and SDLG products to experience their quality firsthand.

Also available was a Volare bus, representing SMT Ghana’s commitment to the public and intercity transport and coach segment. Aftersales service was not left out with the availability of an ultra-modern mobile learning centre and quality genuine Volvo and SDLG parts.

Managing Director of SMT Ghana, Mr. Alex Dutamby underlined the importance of regular engagement with clients and stakeholders as key to the company’s operation. It affords SMT the opportunity to solicit feedback and to provide the right support.

He described the Tarkwa visit as appropriate since the town is a mining area where most of their equipment including the quality Volvo brands are in operation.

SMT Ghana, he reiterated, has invested in three key areas:

It was a day of networking and engaging with stakeholders in the mining, construction and transport industries in the Tarkwa mining area. Top officials from Volvo led by Jean-Philippe Delebecq, Service Market Manager for Market Area Africa – Volvo CE, Marc Vandewijer, Aftersales Director – SMT Africa and Safak Tugut, Commercial Manager in charge of Africa at Volvo CE were on hand to provide support to the SMT Ghana team. Also present was the Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. Benjamin Kessie.

In an interview with the media, Jean-Philippe Delebecq commended SMT Ghana for what he described as a state-of-the-art promotion the Volvo Group will expect from a dealer. “That’s promoting the brand, product, operators training and services which is of importance to the Volvo CE today”, he said.

In a solidarity message, Hon. Benjamin Kessie, Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa Nsuaem urged mining companies to trust SMT Ghana for their quality construction equipment and partner with them to boost their mining activities in the area.

On June 12, SMT Benin participated in the reforestation of one hectare on the occasion of Tree Day. This is an initiative of the European Chamber of Commerce (Eurocham) of which SMT is a member.

In a village located in the district of Tokan in the Municipality of Abomey-Calavi, a crowd made up of women in charge of the daily management of the forest, children and those in charge of this area, reserved a heartwarming welcome for the members of Eurocham.

The captain responsible for water and forests of the municipality of Abomey-Calavi, who also coordinates the classified forest which hosted the initiative was present to welcome the delegation. He underlined that the forest domain extends over more than 50 hectares and each year, a massive reforestation exercise is organized over its entire extent. This activity is carried out by the villagers because the survival of the village depends essentially on the marketing of bundles of wood. Thus, it is necessary to systematically reforest so as not to cut trees in other areas. This planting is capital for the protection of the environment.

In a good-spirited atmosphere, the participants began the reforestation helped by the women of the village and other adolescents, they gave life to the young acacia plants that were planted. Espérance, Carmel and Carine represented SMT by participating with other European companies (Bolloré, CFAO, Siemens …) in this great initiative.
