Kaluga Region (Russia), April 2019 – The Russian Freight Village Kaluga decides to expand its existing reachstacker fleet with two additional units. The new Liebherr LRS 545-31 reachstackers were delivered and commissioned within a remarkably short time.

Since its opening in 2013, the Freight Village Kaluga, located in the industrial area Vorsino in the southwest of Moscow, has been one of the most heavily frequented
multimodal transport & logistic centres in this region. On a total area of around 500 hectares, the high-performance rail terminal handles up to 500,000 TEU annually. In order to ensure efficient container handling, the freight centre has been using Liebherr reachstackers for two years now. At the beginning of 2019, the  management decided to expand the fleet by two additional Liebherr LRS 545-31 reachstackers.

In addition to its sophisticated technology, Liebherr was also able to impress with a particular short delivery time. Only three months passed between the initial negotiations and commissioning of the two new LRS 545 at the Freight Village site. Despite the 24/7 operation, the machines still operate fully efficient even after 12,000 operating hours. One reason for this is the excellent service provided by Liebherr- Russia OOO.

Innovative technologies for Liebherr Reachstackers

The vast majority of reachstackers offered on the market operate with an outdated mechanical drive system. This type of mechanical power transmission has not been further developed for many years and is therefore no longer up to date. Liebherr relies on a hydrostatic drive for many machines, such as the Liebherr wheel
loaders, which have already been sold more than 50,000 times. The Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545 is also equipped with a hydrostatic drive. This type of drive
requires neither a torque converter nor a differential. The result is at least 25% lower diesel consumption compared to equivalent reachstackers from other suppliers. In the Freight Village Kaluga, experience has shown that fuel consumption is between 12 and 13 litres per working hour.

The hydrostatic drive also provides significantly better and more sensitive handling, which is indispensable when handling valuable freight in the containers. In addition, the drive wheels of the LRS 545 are individually powered. This leads to a small turning radius, an extended service life of the tyres and, above all, to a great deal of driving pleasure.

Rostock (Germany), April 8, 2019 – For the first time, a machine of Liebherr’s maritime division will be presented at the Bauma in Munich. The Liebherr LRS Log Handler already convinces selected test customers with its remarkable performance.

From the 8th to 14th April 2019, the Liebherr LRS Log Handler will be presented to the public for the first time at the world’s largest construction fair, the Bauma in Munich. The Log Handler showpiece will receive a prominent position on the so-called Bauma Boulevard next to Gate 15. The agile timber-handling machine marks the first appearance of a Liebherr maritime division machine at Bauma so far.

The LRS in Log Handler-Version

The main field of application of a log handler is the fast, maneuverable and, in particular, mobile transport of logs within industrial plant premises and timber handling terminals. Especially in wood-processing companies such as sawmills, paper or pulp mills, but also for transhipment in ports and inland ports, the Liebherr Log Handler is considered to be a robust, reliable and powerful machine.

At this stage, several test devices have already demonstrated their capabilities to selected customers. The LRS LH was particularly convincing with its impressive grapple capacity of 8.2 m² and an unprecedented load curve. The working area of the machine is characterised by a stacking height and an outreach of over 8 metres each.

The new Liebherr Log Handler combines all the advantages of the well-known LRS series for container handling, with a wide range of modifications specially designed for timber handling. Thanks to numerous parallels to the common reachstacker, the construction of the new device could benefit from many experiences. In addition, the Log Handler – like all Liebherr-Reachstackers – is equipped with a stepless, hydrostatic drive. It is characterised above all by reduced fuel consumption and excellent driving performance.

Hybrid Power Booster

The Liebherr Pactronic® hybrid drive system fitted as standard in the Log Handler enables a temporary increase in performance without additional fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, if required. The sustainable hybrid drive therefore reduces the emission of CO2 and other harmful substances. The fuel saving is achieved through complete utilisation of the regenerative energy and surplus power in the system. The Pactronic system from Liebherr is an impressive power booster. With Pactronic, Liebherr smooths the path towards goods handling with high efficiency and low emissions. Other new features for the Log Handler include a log pusher specially designed for timber handling and a massive protective structure for the driver’s cab.

Durban (South Africa), September 2018 – After half a year in operating the seven Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545, the Transnet SOC Ltd is still very satisfied by the overall performance of the new devices. In daily operation, the machines have to withstand the harsh maritime conditions in the port of Durban and over the past months, they have mastered this task with flying colours.

In December of 2017, Transnet SOC Ltd ordered seven Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545, which have been dispatched from the manufacturing site in Sunderland, Great Britain, in February. Thanks to the professional on-site assembly by qualified Liebherr service engineers in Durban, South Africa, all seven units have already been put into operation in March of 2018.

Within a short period after the commissioning of the new reachstackers in daily business, Transnet SOC Ltd appears impressed by the remarkable performance of the seven latest Liebherr machines. Moreover, the machines have proven to be highly reliable as they have been in permanent 24/7 operation for more than six months straight.

Rostock (Germany), 14 June 2018 – At TOC Europe, Liebherr Maritime disclosedthe expansion of the reachstacker product line by two new devices. A powerful reachstacker with the lifting capacity of 35 tonnes in the second container row and a log handler for timber handling will complete the existing product family.

Exactly three years ago, Liebherr Maritime presented the first prototype of the reachstacker LRS 545 at TOC Europe in Rotterdam. Now two further products have
extended the LRS 545 series. The powerful LRS 545 – 35 that lifts 35 tonnes in the second container row and the LRS 545 Log Handler with a remarkable grapple
capacity of 8.2 m². Since the first introduction of the LRS 545 series, there have been a lot of changes and innovations within the reachstacker market. Especially in order to meet these growing demands on products it is essential for Liebherr to keep a finger on the pulse of time.

Ever since the market launch in June 2015, all the devices of the LRS 545 series have been among the most innovative ones on the reachstacker market. The decisive factor above all is the unique drive concept of the Liebherr reachstackers, the hydrostatic drive. This concept is a high-end solution developed by Liebherr and has already proven itself in over 70,000 Liebherr wheel loaders. It enables a number of unique advantages over competitive products, e.g. maintenance- and wear-intensive parts such as differential and torque converters can be saved. Furthermore, the hydrostatic drive combined with the extremely economical 230 kW Liebherr diesel engine provides possible fuel savings of up to 30% compared to the market average.

All the mentioned advantages of the predecessor models can be found in the new LRS 545 – 35 and in the new Log Handler as well. Therefore, the proven cab design and the slim wedge shape also offer a particularly safe and pleasant driving experience in the new devices. To extend the safety aspect during operation, Liebherr developed the new Topview Camera System, which is an optional feature available for all device types of the LRS 545 series. The innovative Topview System offers the driver an excellent rear and side view from a bird’s eye perspective, without any blind spots. Due to the logical composition of three camera images, the complete rear area is covered by the system at an angle of 270°.

35 tonnes machine LRS 545 – 35 

After detailed market analyses and development phase, now Liebherr Maritime is pleased to announce the desired extension of the load capacity by the LRS 545 – 35. As the name implies, the new reachstacker is capable of lifting containers weighing up to 35 tonnes out of the second row. It was possible to develop a more powerful reachstacker without changing the chassis of the common LRS series.

Efficient LRS 545 Log Handler

Sophisticated design and proven quality standards make the new Liebherr LRS 545 Log Handler a hallmark of reliability. The design of the Log Handler is optimised for quick and easy service. All relevant parts are easily accessible which ensures short idle times. With up to 30 tonnes lifting capacity and a maximum grapple capacity of 8.2 m², the new Log Handler from Liebherr sets standards when it comes to timber handling performance. The telescopic boom allows an unrivalled range of up to 8.5 metres and stacking height of up to 8.9 metres. Another advantage is the possibility of log handling below ground level.

 German CONTARGO group tested Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545
 Liebherr device persuades thanks to excellent visibility and low fuel
consumption

Duisburg (Germany), – As a part of the CONTARGO group, which is specialised in trimodal transportation, the Duisburg Intermodal Terminal (DIT) decided to test the Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545 during the daily business. Over the course of time, the Liebherr device made a remarkable impression, not only because of the advantageous design and the utilisation of the latest technology but also as a result of the much lower fuel consumption in comparison to other reachstackers.

Since its opening in the year 2002 the Duisburg Intermodal Terminal (DIT) ranks, with an annual transhipment of approximately 400,000 TEU, among the major service companies within the trimodal transport sector throughout the Lower Rhine region. As a modern trimodal hub terminal combined with excellent railway connections through Europe, DIT provides apparent advantages for the transportation of overseas containers. Thanks to the remarkable logistic network of the Contargo group, the Duisburg terminal has the possibility to combine different freight flows into competitive transport chains in an efficient way. 

Contargo trials Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545.

Currently the Duisburg Intermodal Terminal is operating ten reachstacker from various manufacturers in a three-shift-operation. Since summer 2017 their fleet also includes a Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545. After a short period of testing, the port representatives and especially the reachtstacker operators are exceedingly satisfied with overall performance of the Liebherr machine. The drivers commended the reachsteacker due to its outstanding capabilities like an excellent visibility based on its wedge shaped design and the high manoeuvrability despite a wheelbase of 6.5 metres. 

In addition to the already mentioned benefits there are several unique technical features like a hydrostatic drive that enables the omission of wear-intensive parts such as the gear or the cardan shaft. The LRS 545 is known as one of the most technically innovative devices in the market, which is mainly due to the single-wheel drive on the front axle and the 230 kW diesel engine (Stage IV / Tier 4 final). If required, it is also possible to additionally install a hybrid system (Pactronic®) with a capacity of 110 kW.
Complete equipment with LED luminaires for uniform illumination even in difficult lighting conditions is standard. 

Contargo supports responsible handling of resources.

As Europe-wide operating logistic companies the Contargo GmbH & Co. KG and her parent company the Rhenus SE & Co. KG are especially focusing on environmentally compatible and resource-saving work practices. They always strive for a balanced concept between economy, ecology and social issues. By opting for a more fuelefficient Liebherr Reachstacker, DIT set a good example being one of the pioneers towards sustainability inside the Contargo group. Fortunately, the fuel consumption of the new LRS 545 ranges around 16 litres per operation hour under the prevailing circumstances. That enables fuel savings up to 8-9 litres in comparison to competing reachstackers. 

In sum, excellent arguments for the responsible director Mr. Bernd Putens and its technical employees to opt for a Liebherr Reachstacker. Subsequent to his trial usage at the Duisburg Terminal, the LRS 545 immediately has been included into the ports fleet. The supervision of the reachstacker is in the hands of a service subsidiary in Hamburg and a branch office located in Oberhausen. In this way it is possible to guarantee short reaction times and the best possible service to the customer.

Rostock (Germany), May 2017 – Bothra Shipping Services Pvt Ltd. has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LRS 545 Reachstacker for its Kakinada Port container operation. Furthermore, Bothra is awaiting delivery of a new Liebherr training simulator.

Liebherr has delivered a new LRS 545 Reachstacker to Bothra Shipping Services Pvt Ltd. at Kakinada Port. The new Reachstacker is being used at Bothra Shipping Group’s busy port for container operation predominantly for the stacking of containers inside the terminal. Bothra Group opted for a Liebherr Reachstacker because of the smooth handling features and the high total economic value of the machine.

Low total cost of ownership

The LRS 545 is designed for highly responsive operation to allow high performance in a relaxed manner. The innovative individual drive concept ensures that, a hydraulic motor independently drives each wheel. Not only is this a more compact solution, it reduces tyre scrubbing and thereby increases tyre life. The reduced wear and tear of the tires strongly contributes to low total cost of ownership. By removing the mechanical gearbox element, the drive of the machine from acceleration to braking is smooth and step less, which provides added sensitivity at low speeds and increases driver comfort.

Another significant factor for good total cost of ownership of a Reachstacker is of course fuel consumption. The highly efficient hydrostatic drive system of the LRS 545 makes a reduction in engine size possible. Fitted with a 4-cylinder 230 kW engine thatmeets Tier 4f requirements, fuel consumption as low as 12 to 14 litres per hour can be achieved.

New training simulator for ship and port cranes

Bothra Shipping Group operates eleven Liebherr mobile harbour cranes in total – from LHM 400 over LHM 425 to seven LHM 550. The cranes are used for bulk operation as Bothra handles a huge volume of coal. Therefore, some cranes are also equipped with Liebherrs self-learning system SmartGrip that increases material handling performance and protects the crane from being overloaded.

The India Shipping Group also awaits delivery of one multipurpose ship crane type CBW, which will be installed on a barge for open sea operation. Another fixed cargo crane type FCC 300 was already installed on a fixed foundation pedestal directly on quayside.

In order to further increase their crane operator skills Bothra Shipping Group recently installed a new training classroom equipped with a Liebherr LiSIM simulator. The simulator offers the original Liebherr crane controls and is equipped with simulations software for both crane types, mobile harbour cranes and ship cranes.
