Bruks Siwertell has won a contract to supply a new coal unloader to returning customer Quezon Power Ltd Co. Based in the Philippines, Quezon has ordered a high-capacity Siwertell screw-type continuous ship unloader to serve the country’s first supercritical power station.

“Excellent environmental performance was a top priority,” says Ola Jeppsson, Sales Manager, Bruks Siwertell. “The Siwertell screw-type ship unloader is the most efficient and environment-friendly type of unloader on the market. Quezon is very focused on its environmental responsibility and our totally enclosed material handling technology is likely to have influenced its decision.”

The San Buenaventura power plant is a new 500 MW coal-fired facility located in Mauban and is being built adjacent to an existing Quezon power plant. Both the new and the old plant will share the coal import jetty, which is expected to double in intake to around three million metric tons of coal a year.

The jetty is already served by a rail-travelling Siwertell ST 790 D-type unloader, which has been in operation for more than 20 years.

“Quezon is very satisfied with its existing unloader,” adds Mr Jeppsson. “We have worked with the company for a number of years. It has an excellent maintenance team, which means its old Siwertell is one of the most well-maintained Siwertells in the world.”

Like its existing counterpart, which was delivered in 1998, the new rail-travelling Siwertell ST 790 D-type unloader will have a continuous rated capacity of 1,400t/h and will be able to discharge vessels up to Panamax size. It is scheduled to be delivered, fully assembled via heavy-lift ship, to the site in early 2022.

In 2018, Mantsinen Group Ltd Oy celebrates its 55-year anniversary as a company. The Group, known of its logistics services and material handling machines, celebrated its anniversary on Saturday 22 September at the Liperi factory in Finland. At the same time, Veli Mantsinen celebrated his 80th birthday on 23 September with his family.

For Veli Mantsinen, a co-founder of the company, year 2018 marks the time for a generational change. “We are a family company, and working together is important to us,” says Veli Mantsinen. “My brother Jussi retired five years ago, and now it is my turn,” Veli continues.

Retirement means a generational change that will be carried out during September 2018. Veli Mantsinen releases his share of the company to his daughters Mia Mantsinen, Meeri Juutilainen and Mervi Mantsinen. Mia Mantsinen will continue as the CEO of the company, and she will become the main owner of the company. The successors will become part of the company board. At the same time, the company has agreed to acquire Ari Hakkarainen’s share of the company. This means that the company will be owned by members of the family and the operational management.

Global export from North Karelia

Our roots and the future are both important to us, says Veli Mantsinen. “My career as an entrepreneur began in Liperi and my home has always been in North Karelia,” says Veli. “My daughters have been around the globe, and the company’s future is in international growth. Durban (South Africa), September 2018 – After half a year in operating the seven Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545, the Transnet SOC Ltd is still very satisfied by the overall performance of the new devices. In daily operation, the machines have to withstand the harsh maritime conditions in the port of Durban and over the past months, they have mastered this task with flying colours.

In December of 2017, Transnet SOC Ltd ordered seven Liebherr Reachstacker LRS 545, which have been dispatched from the manufacturing site in Sunderland, Great Britain, in February. Thanks to the professional on-site assembly by qualified Liebherr service engineers in Durban, South Africa, all seven units have already been put into operation in March of 2018.

Within a short period after the commissioning of the new reachstackers in daily business, Transnet SOC Ltd appears impressed by the remarkable performance of the seven latest Liebherr machines. Moreover, the machines have proven to be highly reliable as they have been in permanent 24/7 operation for more than six months straight.

A new 700 Series E-Crane went into service on May 11, 2018 for Perdue AgriBusiness at their Seaford Delaware river terminal. The model EH 4290 PD-E will unload soybeans and corn from barges arriving on the north bank of the Nanticoke River. The barge unloading facility is a brand new investment consisting of the dock, new receiving hopper, conveyor and supporting equipment. The products offloaded by the E-Crane are siloed and distributed to local Customers or an in-house feed mill blending facility by truck.

The final commission and training was performed by Mitchell Phillips and Nick Detray from ECI-USA, in cooperation with Mike Phillips (project manager) and Thomas Bunting (plant manager) from Perdue. The local maintenance and operators who participated in the training did a fantastic job and we look forward to working together with them as the newest members of the E-Crane family!

The second-hand crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tons and a maximum radius of 50m, has one remote controlled rotator equipped with a double hook. This unit comes in a 4-rope configuration.

The crane was loaded at the port of Gent in Belgium on board the vessel MV Palabora with the help of the two LIEBHERR 450 tons SWL deck cranes. The loading operation took one day, after which the vessel sailed on 5th April bound port of Sevilla in Spain.

The transit time is estimated 7-9 days and the cranes arrival is expected by the 15th April at Sevilla Terminal.

Mülheim Pipecoatings (MPC) is part of the EUROPIPE concern, which is a market leader in the production of longitudinal and spiral seam-welded large-diameter pipes in practically any dimension you could wish for. Among others, they also produce pipes for the Nord Stream Pipeline in the Baltic. Since 2011, Russian gas has flowed through this pipe over a total length of 1224 km under the Baltic Sea and through to Germany. Back then most of the pipes needed also came from MPC from Mülheim an der Ruhr. In the future, with the construction of a second parallel pipe, up to an extra 55 billion cubic meters (1942 billion cubic feet) of gas will be transported. The construction of the Nord Stream 2 is currently underway at full speed and once again the pipes are from Mülheim – sorted, stored and loaded by SENNEBOGEN material handlers.

At the end of 2016 Sales and Service Partner Baumaschinen Rhein-Ruhr (BRR) was able to deliver two more SENNEBOGEN 870 material handlers for pipe handling at MPC.  The machines in the current E series are equipped with a 261 kW diesel engine and the tried and tested Green Hybrid energy recovery system. With a maximum range of 20 m (approx. 66 feet) even pipes up to 15 t in weight and 18 m (approx. 59 feet) can be stacked and loaded safely.

‘Before loading them onto wagons we check each pipe for damage and ensure that they are loaded in the right order. For this reason, it is also important that, despite the heavy loads, it is possible to work as carefully as possible, ensuring that materials are not damaged. With the SENNEBOGEN 870 we have the perfect combination of range, an easy to handle working load and sensitive control,’ Head of Logistics Alexander Jähring explains the advantages of the green material handlers.

If nothing else, as the cost per pipe can reach up to 20,000 euros, the driver needs to be fully focused. The pipes are carefully lifted from the truck using a hanging spreader or vacuum traverse, are inspected again and then finally loaded onto wagons for further transportation – always within perfect view from the Maxcab industrial comfort cab which can be raised by 3.0 m (9.8 feet) and moved forwards by 2.6 m (8.5 feet).

The SENNBOGEN machines have also won Alexander Jähring over in day-to-day operations and maintenance and service. ‘In the meantime we have seven machines from the 870 range in operation. They have not had to undergo any major repairs and in the case of minor incidents we are able to solve the problem ourselves thanks to the easy to service machine structure – a quality feature that we are very satisfied with.’

‘We need a material handler!’ – has long been something that they’ve agreed about at the timber yard Holzwerk Obermeier in Schwindegg, Upper Bavaria. But a lot of thought had to be put into what the optimum solution for the wide range of tasks was. A visit to the Ligna trade fair clinched it: the SENNEBOGEN 825 material handler with its large undercarriage and supplemental hydraulic system was the final solution – perfect for this application, as the site visit showed.

Driver Thomas Mooser and Junior Manager Alexander Palloch are visibly proud of their new green material handler as they welcome us at the timber yard in Schwindegg on a foggy November day. The weather does nothing to dampen their enthusiasm at the new arrival in the machine outfit, particularly as the material handler, with its unique design, was custom-built to meet their needs.

‘We have optimized our logistics and needed a material handler that can destack, cut to length and move the timber from the wet storage area, as well as act as a support for saw work. Particularly a challenge were the up to 12 m (39.4 feet) long round logs weighing up to 8 t, which need to be moved by the material handler. For this reason, we decided on a custom-built material handler,’ Palloch explains.

Alongside the 12 m (39,4 feet) long loading attachment, the SENNEBOGEN 825 is equipped with an extra large, robust undercarriage with a 3.0 m (9.8 feet) track width, strong special axes and powerful 2 stage all-wheel drive. These features allow driver Thomas Moser to travel quickly from one side of the log yard to the other and work swiftly and safely without an outrigger. Only when he needs to reach the top of the high wet timber stack does he need the two support claws and the dozer blade. ‘These help me to move all of the logs safely and position them accurately,’ he explains.  ‘With the 2.70 m (8.9 feet) elevating cab it can even be fun, I always have everything in view and can work safely and efficiently.’

The SENNEBOGEN 825 is driven by a 129 kW diesel engine, which also supplies the supplemental hydraulic system for the drive of the Hultdins grab saw with sufficient power.  This is the second feature that makes Obermeier so unique with their multifunctional SENNEBOGEN. Whereas in the past the beech wood, oak and ash – primarily supplied by Bavaria – was cut to length with the help of a sorting machine; now this is also done by the material handler.  Obermeier has been in production as a medium-sized business since 1956. They now have two sites at which around 100,000 fm of logs are cut every year from a surrounding area of around 200 km (155 miles). The majority of them are processed and made into large-scale wooden boards, blocks and planks or pallets. Deliveries are made to the wooden furniture and construction industries, as well as to wood craft companies and private customers.

The machine has been operative since the end of 2016 and has been fully tried and tested, as Alexander Palloch confirms: ‘We haven’t regretted going with SENNEBOGEN for a second, the service provided by their distribution partner Fischer & Schweiger is excellent,’ he stresses, adding: ‘We speak the same language and SENNEBOGEN has met our requirements perfectly with this tailored material handler – what more could we want!’

Alexander Palloch has one last ace up his sleeve. As we head back towards the office, leaving the timber yard behind us, he says: ‘In the future we would like to go into trailer operation with the SENNEBOGEN 825, as then we will be able to transport even more logs at a time.’ So we could say that this is one machine with many options.

 Liebherr mobile harbour crane type LHM 420 for Qube Ports

Sydney (Australia), January 2018 – The Australian port solution provider Qube Ports recently opted for a new Liebherr mobile harbour crane type LHM 420. The new machine is the eighth mobile harbour crane Qube Ports have purchased from the German crane manufacturer Liebherr. 

Qube Ports is the major integrated port solutions provider in Australia, with services and facilities in 28 Australian ports, together with cargo storage, materials handling and distribution operations in all Australia states. For the port in Bell Bay, Tasmania Qube recently ordered a new Liebherr mobile harbour crane type LHM 420. 

The new crane will come in  container handling version and is equipped with a twin-lift spreader. For the handling of project cargo, the LHM 420 provides a maximum lifting capacity of 124 tonnes at an outreach of up to 16 metres. The maximum reach of the crane is 48 metres. 

This is the eighth mobile harbour crane Qube Ports have purchased from Liebherr, with units already based in Darwin, Bunbury, Port Hedland, Geraldton and Fremantle. They also recently ordered twelve wheel loaders from Liebherr. 

“Our partnership with Qube goes from strength to strength”, comments Leopold Berthold, Managing Director Sales in Rostock, Germany. “We hope to also support them with the new LRS 545 Reachstacker or with the upcoming Liebherr Log Handler”. 

“It’s not just the sales, but also the customer service back-up,” said Gordon Clark, General Manager in Sydney. “Our new office here is also growing, with a holding of critical spares and trained engineers on both sides of the country”. 

The new crane should arrive in Bell Bay in June where it will be assembled and commissioned by both local and European engineers.

Robert Cimoszynski and Janusz Majewski, the two managing directors who run the family company, are currently experiencing an increase in visitor numbers to their 5.0 hectare scrapyard in Tarczyn. And they are not coming because of the yard’s beautiful location between lakes and orchards, around 25 km from the Polish capital of Warsaw, but because they want to see the new green SENNEBOGEN 8100 EQ balance material handler which has been the centerpiece of the yard since July 2017.”Our new machine can be seen from quite some distance away. People keep coming to admire it. Many people are even making special trips to bring scrap so they can see the new material handler, and no wonder – it’s extremely efficient and the first of its kind in Poland,” explains managing director Robert Cimoszynski.Zlompol is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017. The Fortschritt excavator from the 80s which is still on display at the scrapyard shows how material was handled when the company first started. Today, Zlompol handles around 6,000 t scrap every month on site. The material comes from within a radius of around 50 km and is brought in by the company’s own trucks or delivered by customers. When it came to successively replacing the existing material handlers, salesman Andrzej Tokarczyk from SENNEBOGEN dealer Komatsu Poland was able to win over Zlompol with a new approach.

Balance principle and electric motor enable savings of up to 75%
As a material handler with flexible counterbalancing – referred to as the equilibrium concept – the new SENNEBOGEN 8100 EQ with a range of 27 m comfortably covers an area of just under 2,500 sqm. The special advantage here is that, thanks to the constant balancing of the EQ principle, a relatively small motor is sufficient to power the machine. The machine used at Zlompol is fitted with a 110 kW electric motor. According to Tokarczyk, a comparable hydraulic material handler would have needed at least a 200 kW motor to provide comparable power levels and cover the operating area. The combination of the balance principle and the electric drive enables the company to save up to 75% of the operating costs.“Further advantages of the electric machine include lower service and energy costs, increased service life of the components, no fuel stops, and quiet, emission-free operation – which is particularly appreciated by our neighbors”, adds Janusz Majewski.

For the driver who feeds the 1250 PS Lindemann shredder with the 8100 EQ, one key thing has changed: the view. With an eye height of 10.5 m, he not only has an unobstructed view of the shredder feed area, but can also keep an eye on the entire yard and all the processes going on around him. Managing director Cimoszynski also likes to swap his office chair for the driver seat in the comfortable Maxcab industrial cab from time to time for the same reason. For him, one thing is clear: “By purchasing the new SENNEBOGEN 8100, we have invested in the future. At the same time, we have found a reliable partner in Komatsu Poland.”
