“The addition of the new LPS 420 rail-mounted gantry crane at the Port of Morehead City represents North Carolina Ports’ commitment to investing in the future and long-term success of the Port, its customers and the North Carolina economy. The new crane will enable us to more efficiently handle a diverse range of cargoes and ultimately better meet customer demand.” – Paul J. Cozza, North Carolina Ports Executive Director

Multi Purpose Crane

The Port of Morehead City is a breakbulk and bulk facility, is one of the deepest on the United States East Coast, and it’s just four miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore, the new LPS 420 is equipped as a multi-purpose crane and will be used by North Carolina Ports mainly for handling grain and fertilizer. It is also used for various project cargoes, including parts of wind turbines, trains and rails. The crane was shipped fully assembled. Which means, no time-consuming assembly was required on site and the crane was ready for operation shortly after unloading.

About North Carolina Ports

The large-scale project is thus entering the next exciting phase – the erection of the biggest offshore crane Liebherr Maritime Cranes has ever constructed, the HLC 295000. The “Orion” reached the Liebherr Rostock on the 22nd of November 2019. Following the arrival in Rostock, the assembly of the HLC 295000 is going to begin. The manufacture of Liebherr’s first HLC is a revolutionary project that is now ready to go into the final phase. Over the past months, the technical and organizational efforts were immense. Several thousand tonnes of steel have been formed, welded and assembled into a product that is unique for Liebherr.
Rostock (Germany), November 2019 – Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH announces the arrival of DEME’s offshore vessel “Orion”.

Not only the size of the crane, but also the size of the individual components and main parts is exciting. The HLC boom alone is 160 metres long and the whole crane has a height of 90 metres. Assembled on a huge pedestal the crane is going to have a lifting height of up to 180 metres – almost twice as high as the Statue of Liberty in New York. With a lifting capacity of 5,000 tonnes at more than 30 metres outreach the HLC 295000 could lift nine fully loaded A380 airplanes in one go.

In order to install the giant HLC 295000 on the “Orion”, the recently inaugurated TCC 78000 will support the assembly work. With its maximum lifting capacity of 1,600 tonnes and a max. lifting height of 158 metres, the TCC 78000 is predestined for this kind of challenging operation. The newly developed travelling cargo crane (TCC) is equipped with double bogeys (two rails per side) and has a track gauge of 30 metres. Therefore, the gantry crane provides optimum flexibility for handling all types of heavy goods.

Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH is looking forward to entering the final stages of the realization of this landmark offshore project.

The new Liebherr LHM 800 is equipped with an E-drive that operates emission-free

The machine is the second LHM 800 for Denmark in 2019

Rostock (Germany), November 2019 – Lindø port of Odense recently placed an order for an LHM 800. The new machine has a lifting capacity of up to 308 tonnes and a lifting height of 96.7 meters above quay thanks to a custom-made multi-layer winch. The LHM 800 will enable the Lindø port of Odense to cope with the huge offshore wind turbines of tomorrow.

Lindø port of Odense is Denmarks largest port by area. It compromises 6.4 million square metres and will be further expanded within 2020 for ongoing developments. The port is located strategically between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea and offers world class facilities to the offshore wind industry. In order to be geared for future offshore wind turbines Lindø port of Odense has just signed a purchase agreement on the world’s largest port mobile crane at Liebherr in Rostock.
The unique and custom-built heavy lift mobile harbour crane type LHM 800 is equipped with a high-rise tower extension that makes it to the world’s largest and strongest mobile harbour crane ever built by the German manufacturer Liebherr. The huge piece of Liebherr mobile harbour crane technology has a lifting capacity of up to 308 tonnes and a lifting height of 96.7 meters above quay thanks to a custom-made multi-layer winch.

With the purchase of the world’s largest mobile harbour crane, Lindø port of Odense has the strongest and biggest mobile harbour crane and is thus geared to deal with the future offshore wind turbines. The built-in electric motor of the LHM 800 simultaneously saves Lindø port of Odense up to 300 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year and makes the crane emission free at the same time as the power is produced by windmills. With the installed 300 metres cable drum, the crane can travel up to 600 metres at the quay.

The crane complements the port’s existing crane portfolio. In combination with the current Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour crane, the new crane will enable the Lindø port of Odense to cope with the huge offshore wind turbines of tomorrow in tandem lift mode. As one of the few ports in the world, Lindø will be able to lift 400-ton nacelles to offshore wind farms exclusively with mobile cranes, and at the same time, the mega crane offers good opportunities for maximum use of the new port extension. For the major customers of Lindø port of Odense, the new LHM 800 also means faster handling of steel scrap and thus thus shorter quay lay times for the ships.

“With the purchase of the new mega crane, LINDØ port of ODENSE is cementing its key role as one of the world’s largest port players in the green transition with unique production facilities for the future of the future offshore wind turbines. We can see that the good sizes are getting bigger and bigger. We are meeting that development now with this investment so that we can continue to contribute to facilitating green workplaces within sustainable energy production,” says Carsten Aa, CEO at Lindø port of Odense.

Second LHM for Denmark in 2019

The recent order of the LHM 800 for Lindø port of Odense marks the second Liebherr mobile harbour crane type LHM 800 for Denmark in 2019.
Gijón (Spain), November 2019 – Liebherr handed over the 100th Liebherr mobile harbour crane, a new LHM 600, to the Spanish customer Maritima del Principado in Gijón. Spain is now the third country in the world, alongside Russia and India, with a fleet of 100 or more Liebherr mobile harbour cranes.

Liebherr maritime cranes reached another milestone. Liebherr representatives of the maritime cranes headquarters in Rostock, Germany handed over the 100th LHM to the Spanish customer Maritima del Principado. The ceremony took place in Gijón, Spain. The new machine is an LHM 600 and belongs to Generation 5, the latest technical development stage in the Liebherr Mobile Harbour Crane program.

The history of the Liebherr mobile harbour crane in Spain started more than 27 years ago. In the Year 1992 Liebherr delivered its first mobile harbour crane to Spain. It was an LHM 1300. The crane was like many Liebherr products a pioneer of its time. A highly innovative and reliable crane in the market. The LHM 1300 proves its durability every day again, because it is still in operation in Spain.

“Today the population of mobile harbour cranes in Spain is at a high level of 179 machines in total,” comments Andreas Müller, Sales Director of Liebherr Mobile Harbour Cranes. “We at Liebherr maritime cranes are very proud to have achieved a market share of more than 55%. This great trust of our customers in us and our products and services shows that the Liebherr company philosophy is also lived in Spain.”

100 or more Liebherr mobile harbour cranes

There are only two other countries in the world that have a fleet of Liebherr mobile harbour cranes of 100 or even more machines. The first country to reach this magical mark was Russia, closely followed by India. With the recent handover of the LHM 600 to Maritima del Principado, Liebherr was now able to support 100 customers in Spain with its effective Mobile Harbour Crane technology. There will certainly be many more satisfied customers to follow.

Mantsinen Group, specializing in material handling machines and logistic services, will invest over 12 million euros in their factory facilities and equipment. The investment will be focused at a new production and office space, milling boring center and surface treatment line. This will be the most extensive onetime investment in production technology the company has made. The main reason behind the investment is the rapid growth rate of sales of material handling machines during the previous years. Moreover, the company forecasts to double the turnover in the following decade, 2020s. Heavy material handling machines and hydraulic harbor cranes have been gaining market from traditional solutions, thus speeding up the growth of Mantsinen sales. Over 80 per cent of the production is exported worldwide. – Our goal is to become a very significant supplier of material handling solutions globally. New investment on production technology allows the growth of production capacity and increasing the production efficiency, as well as increases our competitiveness on the market. This is an extensive investment for us, but on the other hand, only one phase of our comprehensive investment program, says Mia Mantsinen, CEO of the company.

This type of investment is done for long run, and investment needs to adapt to future needs for decades to come. Modern equipment and spaces also add to the safety and ergonomic of the employees, and therefore hopefully to the well-being at work.

– New milling boring center and surface treatment line will meet both the existing and future needs in regards to size, capacity and functionality. Over 3,000m2 (32,000 sq. ft) of new production space will be built, encompassing an assembly space in addition to the equipment. This relates to a growth of over 30 per cent in our current production spaces, Mia Mantsinen notes.

Mantsinen has recruited over 30 new people in the last years, and the organizational growth is expected to continue along with the investment. Even now, the company is seeking skilled persons for multiple positions from production to customer service to management.

Strong both locally and globally

The construction will start in the coming fall and the project is due to finish in the fall of 2020. The intensity of the project schedule is fitting for a company that has always wanted to challenge itself. With the intense growth, the roots of our company increases in meaning.– Our people have an amazing spirit of doing. We do this with a passion and we are strongly committed to continuously create new solutions to material handling community. On our way to a global influencer, we want to maintain the same spirit of entrepreneurship we have had for over 50 years. It is important for me that we continue to stay devoted to our values and our way of doing this in the future.

For this purpose, Navtech Marine Services needed both a compact and powerful solution, which they have found in the ram luffing crane RL 2650.

“After discussing the project specific needs, the RL 2650 is the most suitable product to meet the requirements since it is the only crane which provides the lifting capacity of 75 tonnes while complying with the weight requirements”, said Daniel Poll, Sales Director Liebherr Ship and Offshore Cranes. “Due to its dimensions and the specific adaptions, it is the optimal product for this project”, he adds. The cylinder luffing crane is characterised by a box boom and a compact structure. Its pedestal has a diameter of less than three metres. To guarantee the required lifting capacity of 75 tonnes the crane will be equipped with a reinforced slewing bearing and slewing column. This special solution provides the optimum structure to lift heavy parts with a weight of up to 75 tonnes and also combines compactness and high lifting capacities. Furthermore it keeps the crane’s weight low.

10 Years of Trustful Partnership

Mac Port was created in 1987 based on the vision of Giordano Bilotti who, working as an operator at the Port of Ravenna (Italy), had the intuition to establish a company specialised in the modern mechanisation of port areas. The sons of Giordano Bilotti, first Matteo and then Fabio, started working at Mac Port, leading the company to become more structured and stand out in the industry’s business network. The company starts and implements numerous quality plans, investing in the training of highly specialised workers, with the technical competences and a unique expertise of the machines. Transparency in relationships, health and safety at work are the core values of the company.

In 2009 Mac Port takes a fundamental step from a strategic business and technical standpoint and partners up with the Liebherr Group. The company becomes the sole distributor in Italy for sales, after sales and spare parts for Liebherr Maritime Cranes.

The first delivery was a Liebherr Mobile Harbour crane type LHM 320 in 2009. Mac Port sets up a warehouse specialised in sensitive spare parts, essential to overcome serious machine downtime. Since then, Mac Port managed to deliver more than 80 Liebherr machines to satisfied customers in Italy and Bulgaria. In 2011, Mac Port has also become a distributor of Liebherr’s Earthmoving division.

“Mac Port is proud of its successes, fruit of its constant investment in relationships, partnerships and customer care,” comments Matteo Bilotti, Member of the Board of Mac Port. “Thanks to its partnership with Liebherr, since 2009, today Mac Port is the Italian leader in the sales of port machines and equipment. It can count on a solid structure and on long-term relations with important customers across Italy. Our vision is dynamic and expanding, both in terms of diversifying and updating our products, and of taking part in strategic European projects for the development of business activities in the Mediterranean. We would like to thank all our customers for the trust they have placed in us and for their cooperation in a spirit of partnership.”

“Running a successful business for more than 30 years is just exceptional. Launching and further developing a prosperous company is an indication for strongest
commitment and highest professionalism. Both organisations, Mac Port and Liebherr, consider leadership in quality and innovation as their major goals. We devote our efforts to best performance in order to stay one-step ahead. These high standards always determined the corporate culture of our companies and they will provide a firm foundation for our future success. All we can say to such an achievement is ‘Congratulations’,” says Leopold Berthold, Managing Director at Liebherr Rostock.

Rostock (Germany), May 2019 – The Port Esbjerg is gearing up for future business and opted for the world’s largest mobile harbour crane, the Liebherr LHM 800 with a maximum lifting capacity of up to 308 tonnes.
Since 1874, the Port of Esbjerg has been the main centre for sea carriage and trade between Denmark and the rest of the world. Today, the Port of Esbjerg is an international, multimodal transport centre and an important Scandinavian gateway to the whole world. More than 200 companies are located at the port with a total staff of up to 10,000 people.

The number of crane tasks at the Port Esbjerg is growing, having increased up by 66% in just four years. Accordingly, the port is now expanding its crane capacity with the world’s largest harbour crane, the Liebherr LHM 800. The new machine has a total height of 48 metres and a boom length of 66 metres. ”We are experiencing a growth in high and heavy cargo, and that makes new demands on our crane capacity,” explains Dennis Jul Pedersen, Port CEO at the Port Esbjerg. The new crane has a lifting capacity of 308 tonnes. The crane will arrive at the Port of Esbjerg in August. The Port Esbjerg already has the largest fleet of Liebherr cranes in Scandinavia and is now expanding it further.

New opportunities opening up

The need for the new crane is prompted by developments in the offshore industry especially; partly because the components for the wind turbines in the North Sea are getting bigger and bigger. However, other industries at the port may also benefit from the crane, e.g. for the handling of heavy machinery and production equipment.

”The crane gives us much greater cargo handling flexibility. In addition to single lifts of over 300 tons, the new crane will allow us to carry out tandem lifts with two of our largest cranes together lifting up to 448 tonnes,” says Dennis Jul Pedersen.
