This represents an increase of € 1,199 million or 11.4 % compared with the previous year. Despite the slowdown in global economic growth, 2019 was once again a record year for the Liebherr Group. Both the construction machinery and mining equipment divisions recorded overall increases in sales revenues, as did the other product areas overall. Revenues from construction machinery and mining equipment rose by 11.8 %to € 7,640 million, with contributions from the Earthmoving, Mobile Cranes, Tower Cranes, as well as Concrete Technology and Mining divisions.
Bulle (Switzerland), April 6, 2020 – In 2019, the Liebherr Group completed another very successful business year with turnover of € 11,750 million.

In the other product areas, which include Maritime Cranes, Aerospace and Transportation Systems, Gear Technology and Automation Systems, Domestic Appliances, Components, and Hotels, turnover rose by a total of 10.5 % to € 4,110 million.

The success of the 2019 business year can be attributed to the very positive sales performance in almost all sales regions of the Liebherr Group. Sales continued to
increase within the European Union, which is Liebherr’s most important sales region. One reason for this is the favorable market development, especially in Germany and France, but also, for example, in Spain and Denmark. Positive growth impulses also came from Russia and Norway. The Liebherr Group recorded its most significant increase in sales in North America. In Asia and Oceania this positive trend was driven in particular by the markets in Australia, China, Singapore and Japan. Slight increases in turnover were also achieved in Africa and in the Near and Middle East. There were only slight declines in Central and South America.

The Liebherr Group achieved a net profit of € 429 million in 2019, an increase compared with the previous year, whereas the operating result has fallen slightly
compared to the previous year. The financial result showed a very positive development.

The 2019 business year saw a significant increase in the workforce. At the end of the year, the Liebherr Group had a total of 48,049 employees worldwide, representing an increase of 1,880 compared to the previous year.

Traditionally high investments in research and development

As a high-tech company, the Liebherr Group pursues the goal of making a decisive contribution to shaping the technological progress in sectors relevant to the Group. Liebherr invested € 592 million in research and development last year. The bulk of this was used in the development of new products. A large number of research projects with universities, other higher education institutions, and research institutes were initiated and continued.

A special area of focus for these research projects is the topic of electrification. As part of the EU Technology Initiative “Clean Sky 2 / Horizon 2020”, Liebherr researched the electric variants of flight control systems, landing gear and air management systems in order to make flying more efficient and environmentally friendly in the future. Intensive work on alternative drive technologies was also carried out in the area of construction machines.

Important issues across the wide range of products and services include digitisation, safety, and the automation of machines. For example assistance systems have been developed, which support the safe operation of construction machines. An important project in digital transformation is Condition Monitoring, which makes possible the monitoring of components in complex machines and systems.

Investments in production, sales, and service exceed industry average

€ 756 million was invested in the production sites and the global sales and service network. This means the Liebherr Group reduced its investment activities by
€ 73 million compared to the previous year, however, with an investment rate of approximately 6%, the Liebherr Group is still above the average of the mechanical
engineering sector. Offset against this was depreciation of € 541 million. A new production site for the Concrete Technology division was built in Bulgaria. The
Aerospace and Transportation Systems division invested in buildings in Friedrichshafen (Germany), Toulouse (France), Singapore, and Bulgaria. Major
investments were also made in Germany, for example, in a new sales and service center at Hamburg port. A new customer center for the Domestic Appliances division was set up at the Ochsenhausen location in Germany.

In the Gear Technology and Automation Systems product segment, the Kempten location (Germany) has been modernized. Moreover, in the Maritime Cranes division, the TCC 78000, one of the most powerful rail-mounted heavy-duty cranes in the world, was successfully installed in Rostock port.

Outside Europe, Liebherr invested in projects such as the set-up of Liebherr- Transportation Systems (China) Co., Ltd., the production site of Liebherr-
Verzahntechnik in Yongchuan (China), as well as the cooperative venture between the Components division and Shanghai Diesel Engine Co. Ltd.

No reliable forecasts for revenue development in 2020

The Group’s order situation at the end of 2019 as well as far into the first quarter of 2020 can be described as very good. The due to the impact of the Corona virus
significantly restricted business activities in many markets will obviously influence the turnover in 2020. The extent to which our business will be impacted cannot be forecasted reliably at the time this annual report is compiled. However, the Liebherr Group will ensure that all organizational units have implemented the necessary measures to guarantee that customer demands are met with the usual reliability, also in 2020 and beyond. The financial strength of the Liebherr Group enables a rapid resumption of reduced activities in production, sales and service units.

On Monday, April 6, 2020, the Liebherr Group publishes its current annual report. In addition to detailed figures, it contains a magazine section reviewing the past financial year. In an interview, Dr. h.c. Dipl.-Kfm. Isolde Liebherr, Dr. h.c. Dipl.-Ing. (ETH) Willi Liebherr, Stéfanie Wohlfahrt and Jan Liebherr give their summary for 2019.

Rostock (Germany), August 16, 2019 – during a ceremony, Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH officially inaugurated its new heavy-duty gantry crane TCC 78000 at the Rostock Overseas Port. It will not only support the family business Liebherr with the loading and assembly of ever larger maritime cranes from its own production, but will also offer other companies the opportunity to handle heavy loads at Rostock Port.

“Three, two, one… go” – On this command the Minister of Economics, Employment and Health of the state of Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania, Harry Glawe together with his colleague Mr. Christian Pegel, Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and Digitisation of Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania and Mrs. Patricia Rüf as well as Mrs. Stéfanie Wohlfarth as members of the Liebherr family pressed the blue button at the foot of the 164-metre-high heavy-duty gantry crane. A horn sounds and the TCC 78000 begins to raise a large Liebherr flag to a height of over 120 metres. The official inauguration ceremony marks the beginning of a new era in heavy load handling for Liebherr Rostock and the Port of Rostock.

“Thanks to its unique combination of lifting height and capacity, the TCC 78000 has the best technical potential available to safely and economically assemble and load the next generation of maritime cranes,” summarised Leopold Berthold, Managing Director of Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH, in his welcoming speech.

TCC is the abbreviation for Travelling Cargo Crane. The rail-mounted heavy-duty crane will move on a portal between the northern Liebherr plant site and the adjacent quay edge. With its maximum lifting capacity of 1,600 tonnes and a total height of 164 metres with the jib raised, the TCC 78000 will characterise the appearance of Rostock harbour in future. Equipped with a double bogeys (two rails per side) and a track gauge of 30 metres, the gantry crane provides optimum flexibility for handling all types of large goods.

Liebherr is not the only one benefiting from these new and important perspectives. The rail-mounted gantry crane will also offer other companies the opportunity to handle heavy loads at Rostock Port.

“With this impressive crane, the Hanseatic City of Rostock has gained another landmark, which at the same time is a symbol for the success story of Liebherr in the overseas port of Rostock. The heavy-duty gantry crane improves the opportunities for further company settlements and the acquisition of extremely heavy project cargoes. This potential must be enhanced together,” says Dr. Gernot Tesch, Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT GmbH.

The installation of the TCC 78000 is also an investment for Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH in the new heavy-duty handling industry. The new offered service will have a positive impact on the port of Rostock and the entire region.

“This heavy-duty crane is a substantial improvement for the infrastructure in the port of Rostock. The investment demonstrates the company’s confidence in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as an attractive business location. Today Liebherr is a major player in the manufacturing industry and one of the most important employers in the region,” emphasised Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Economics Minister Harry Glawe at today’s inauguration ceremony.

Overall, Liebherr is investing around 45 million euros in the new crane system. The TCC 78000 will have its first major operation at the end of this year. At that time it will lift the offshore crane HLC (Heavy Lift Crane) 295000 – the most powerful crane Liebherr has ever built – onto the special ship “Orion”.

Mantsinen Group, specializing in material handling machines and logistic services, will invest over 12 million euros in their factory facilities and equipment. The investment will be focused at a new production and office space, milling boring center and surface treatment line. This will be the most extensive onetime investment in production technology the company has made. The main reason behind the investment is the rapid growth rate of sales of material handling machines during the previous years. Moreover, the company forecasts to double the turnover in the following decade, 2020s. Heavy material handling machines and hydraulic harbor cranes have been gaining market from traditional solutions, thus speeding up the growth of Mantsinen sales. Over 80 per cent of the production is exported worldwide. – Our goal is to become a very significant supplier of material handling solutions globally. New investment on production technology allows the growth of production capacity and increasing the production efficiency, as well as increases our competitiveness on the market.

This is an extensive investment for us, but on the other hand, only one phase of our comprehensive investment program, says Mia Mantsinen, CEO of the company. This type of investment is done for long run, and investment needs to adapt to future needs for decades to come. Modern equipment and spaces also add to the safety and ergonomic of the employees, and therefore hopefully to the well-being at work.

– New milling boring center and surface treatment line will meet both the existing and future needs in regards to size, capacity and functionality. Over 3,000m2 (32,000 sq. ft) of new production space will be built, encompassing an assembly space in addition to the equipment. This relates to a growth of over 30 per cent in our current production spaces, Mia Mantsinen notes.

Mantsinen has recruited over 30 new people in the last years, and the organizational growth is expected to continue along with the investment. Even now, the company is seeking skilled persons for multiple positions from production to customer service to management.

Strong both locally and globally

The construction will start in the coming fall and the project is due to finish in the fall of 2020. The intensity of the project schedule is fitting for a company that has always wanted to challenge itself. With the intense growth, the roots of our company increases in meaning.– Our people have an amazing spirit of doing. We do this with a passion and we are strongly committed to continuously create new solutions to material handling community. On our way to a global influencer, we want to maintain the same spirit of entrepreneurship we have had for over 50 years. It is important for me that we continue to stay devoted to our values and our way of doing this in the future.

For this purpose, Navtech Marine Services needed both a compact and powerful solution, which they have found in the ram luffing crane RL 2650.

“After discussing the project specific needs, the RL 2650 is the most suitable product to meet the requirements since it is the only crane which provides the lifting capacity of 75 tonnes while complying with the weight requirements”, said Daniel Poll, Sales Director Liebherr Ship and Offshore Cranes. “Due to its dimensions and the specific adaptions, it is the optimal product for this project”, he adds. The cylinder luffing crane is characterised by a box boom and a compact structure. Its pedestal has a diameter of less than three metres. To guarantee the required lifting capacity of 75 tonnes the crane will be equipped with a reinforced slewing bearing and slewing column. This special solution provides the optimum structure to lift heavy parts with a weight of up to 75 tonnes and also combines compactness and high lifting capacities. Furthermore it keeps the crane’s weight low.

Rostock (Germany), January 2019 – Liebherr Maritime Cranes’ product line of mobile harbour cranes has had a very successful year 2018. With 83 sales in 40 countries, Liebherr gains an estimated market share of up to two-thirds in the mobile harbour crane segment.

“Demand for our state-of-the-art handling solution was very stable at a high level during the course of the year. In addition, we have succeeded in reviving countries and even entire regions that have shown almost no turnover development in recent years. A record year in the UK and an impressive result in Africa are two positive examples. In addition, we have continued our success story with the LHM 800, strengthened our existing customer relationships and gained new important accounts. At this point I would like to emphasise very clearly that all this could only be achieved through teamwork across all departments and branches worldwide,” summarises Andreas Müller, Sales Director for Liebherr mobile harbour cranes.

Sales Highlights 2018

At the beginning of the year, Liebherr received an order for a LHM 420 for Qube Ports in Australia. While the crane was on its way to Bell Bay, Tasmania Qube ordered a second mobile harbour crane type LHM 550. The new machine will start operation in a couple of weeks and represents the ninth LHM Qube ordered from Liebherr in the past five years. “It’s another exiting investment and a demonstration of Qube’s commitment to SIMEC and the port of Whyalla,” said Todd Emmert, Director of Qube in WA. “Liebherr has worked very hard to shorten our delivery to suit our client’s needs.”

In March, Liebherr delivered a mobile harbour crane type LHM 120 to the Belgium port worker-training centre OCHA. The new machine is the third training device Liebherr provided to OCHA. The machine will be used for practice-based trainings of crane operators.

In April, Liebherr Maritime Cranes launched the first purely electrical port crane, the LPS 420 E at the Transrussia exhibition in Moscow, Russia. The newly designed machine is a purely electric driven portal crane. All crane movements like luffing, hoisting, slewing and travelling are done by electric motors. The forward-looking machine is designed for ports and terminals with an electrical infrastructure. Equipped with two winches, each with a powerful 190 kW electric motor, the LPS 420 E provides a maximum load capacity of up to 124 tonnes. The first unit has already been sold and will be delivered in the course of the year.

In the second half of the year, a number of impressive orders were placed. Karmsund Havn IKS purchased the biggest mobile harbour crane in Norway, an LHM 550. The machine will be used in the new Haugesund Cargo Terminals, Husøy, Norway’s most modern port terminal.

Yilport Holding, a subsidiary of Yildrim Group, recently acquired a multi-purpose terminal in Quetzal, Guatemala. At the beginning of October, two Liebherr mobile harbour cranes type LHM 600 were delivered from Liebherr’s maritime production facility in Rostock, Germany to Yilports newly acquired terminal in Guatemala . The machines are equipped with a tower extension of 12 metres, which ensures a maximum cabin height of more than 37 meters.

LHM 800 on the Rise

2018 was also the year of the LHM 800, the largest mobile harbour crane in Liebherr’s portfolio. At the beginning of the year, Saqr Port Authority received the delivery of two LHM 800. These two cranes are the first LHM 800 in bulk handling configuration ever delivered by Liebherr.

Furthermore, OCUPA received an LHM 800 in container handling configuration for their terminal in Manzanillo, Mexico. Salerno Container Terminal (SCT), owned by the Gallozzi SpA Group, received an LHM 600 and an LHM 800. Both units are equipped with an extra tower extension, which provides the best possible view on the cargo for container handling, even for large container vessels with up to 22 containers rows across. SCT thus operates the largest mobile harbour crane in Europe, which is used for container handling.

In 2019, Liebherr will also deliver two more LHM 800s to customers who are already satisfied with their existing devices. Port of Bronka was the first customer of the LHM 800 and will receive another unit this summer. These two heavy lift machines type LHM 800 will be the strongest mobile harbour cranes worldwide, each with a maximum lifting capacity of 308 tonnes. With the order for the third LHM 800, Montecon is now the world’s largest operator of the LHM 800 in terms of numbers. The device is also the tenth Liebherr mobile harbour crane operated by Montecon at its terminal in Montevideo, Uruguay.
“We feel confident as we rely on the trustworthiness of Liebherr and its entire staff; they are strategic partners in the development of our business. Our mobile harbour cranes are doubtlessly our main fixed asset, and they determine the service level that we provide to our Customers. This is why Liebherr’s reliability and aftersales support are essential values to us”, says Juan Olascoaga, General Manager of Montecon.

Revitalisation of Regions and Countries

Over the past three years, sales of mobile harbour cranes in Africa have declined sharply, making it even more satisfying that the entire region was revived in 2018. In addition to the LHM 420, which is extremely popular in Africa, an LHM 280 and several large machines with a maximum capacity of up to 154 tonnes were sold.

Liebherr also sold the largest MHC for container handling in North America to the Canaveral Port Authority in 2018. The device was recently delivered. “We very much welcome the decision of Canaveral Port Authority to invest in Liebherr mobile harbour crane technology type LHM 600 high rise. The rapidly growing number of Liebherr mobile harbour cranes in North America confirms our leading position in this area. The new crane provides the port flexibility for all their upcoming operations due to the special double layer winch providing an outstanding lifting height of up to 85 metres,” quotes Andreas Ritschel, Area Sales Manager for Liebherr mobile harbour cranes and reachstackers.

Another record was achieved with a total of eight units sold in Great Britain. Machines with lifting capacities from 64 to 144 tonnes were represented here. An LHM 550 delivered to Rosyth for the customer Forth Ports also marks the largest mobile harbour crane in Scotland.

Outlook

“Despite unstable political and economic conditions, some of which are difficult to predict, the outlook for 2019 is positive. The existing order backlog is promising and indicates that the Liebherr mobile harbour crane will continue on its successful course. We would like to thank all our customers for the trust they have placed in us. We will work hard as a team to meet their expectations,” says Leopold Berthold, Managing Director Sales for Liebherr Maritime Cranes.

Rostock (Germany), November 2018 – Yilport Holding aims to create excellent, multipurpose facilities on an international scale. At the beginning of November, two Liebherr mobile harbour cranes type LHM 600 arrived at Yilport’s recently acquired terminal in Guatemala. An option on two more LHM 600 underlines the forthcoming strategic partnership between Liebherr and Yilport.

Yilport Holding is a subsidiary of Yildrim Group and was established in 2011 to consolidate port and container terminals on an international level. Yilport globally operates 21 marine ports and terminals and 6 dry terminals. The latest member of Yilport’s terminal portfolio is Guatemala’s largest Pacific Ocean port Puerto Quetzal. Puerto Quetzal, located 102 kilometres from Guatemala City, is able to accommodate vessels up to Panamax size.

Yilport has already invested in new equipment to cope with the expected growth in freight volumes in Quetzal. At the beginning of October, two Liebherr mobile harbour cranes type LHM 600 were delivered from Liebherr’s maritime production facility in Rostock, Germany. The machines are equipped with a tower extension of 12 metres, which ensures a maximum cabin height of more than 37 meters. The higher position of the operator cabin ensures high visibility into deep cargo holds and enables highly efficient container handling with maximum safety. With a maximum outreach of 58 metres, twin lift capability and a lifting capacity of 104 tonnes, the LHM 600 is capable of servicing vessels up to 19 container rows wide and nine container stacks high.

Strategic Partnership

“These new machines are an essential future investment in Yilports terminal in order to handle the new generation of vessels. Liebherr is looking forward to a cooperative and strategic partnership with the Yildrim Group. We are delighted that Yilport Holding trusts in our reliable cranes. Looking ahead to projects in the pipeline for the coming year, it is clear that we will continue to expand this partnership,” quotes Andreas Müller, Sales Director of Mobile Harbour Cranes.

Ready for Operation

Both cranes were shipped fully erected from Germany to Guatemala by the Ro-Ro vessel “Rolldock Storm”. Located at the Baltic Sea Liebherr Rostock provides the best conditions for fast and effective shipment of large maritime cargo handling solutions. Shipping fully assembled Liebherr cranes by Ro-Ro vessel means that the machines can be ready for operation shortly after driving off the vessel onto the quay. Both cranes will be ready for operation by the end of November. Yilport Holding has an option for two more machines in 2019.

Konecranes has introduced the next evolution of its Automated Rubber Tired Gantry (ARTG) System, version 2.0. It can be retrofit to most brownfield container terminals. It fits most container stack envelopes. And truck handling is automated, with remote supervision. In 2013, Konecranes was the first company in the world to introduce an Automated Rubber Tired Gantry (ARTG) System on a wide commercial scale. A number of container terminal operators are now using the system. Recently, PT Prima Terminal Petikemas, a subsidiary of state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero), signed a contract with Konecranes for the delivery of an ARTG system. The Konecranes ARTG system version 2.0 offers new advantages for operators of container terminals using RTG cranes. Foremost among these is how it can be retrofit to most brownfield container terminals. It fits most container stack envelopes because it uses space very effectively. Its truck handling concept is versatile. Truck handling is automated, with remote supervision. One remote supervisor can operate up to five ARTGs simultaneously. Furthermore, the ARTG system version 2.0 is equipped with the latest wireless communication technology: control signals and video signals are now wireless.
Rostock (Germany), November 2018 – Liebherr and Karmsund Havn IKS have just signed a contract for a Liebherr LHM 550. With a maximum lifting capacity of up to 154 tonnes and a maximum outreach of 54 metres, this crane will be the strongest mobile harbour crane in Norway. The crane can be operated with diesel or electric motors and will mainly be used for container handling.

Karmsund Port Authority is one of Norway`s largest port areas with 13 million tonnes of goods and over 50,000 port calls each year. In January 2019, a new container terminal and a new ro-ro terminal will be opened at Haugesund Cargo Terminals, Husøy. This terminal will be an important logistics hub for the whole of western Norway and will be Norway’s most modern port terminal. To be prepared for the increased freight volume that the new terminal will bring, the port has decided to invest in a new crane. In the course of this forthcoming investment, Karmsund just signed a contract for a new Liebherr mobile harbour crane type LHM 550. Furthermore, the Karmsund Port Authority has an option for four additional cranes until 2023.

“The new crane will become a prominent landmark in the region. The LHM 550 will be visible both from the air and from the sea when passing Husøy”, says Tore Gautesen, Port Director in Karmsund. “We chose a supplier with a great design and state-of-the-art technology. The most important parameters for our decision in favour of Liebherr were capacity, technical structure, manoeuvrability and an overall assessment of technology and environmental compatibility. The Liebherr crane met these requirements satisfactorily and Liebherr submitted the best bid in the tendering procedure”.

The harbour crane will be operated on electricity, which corresponds with Karmsund Port Authority’s vision that the port should, as far as possible, be operated under the principles “Lean – Clean – Green”. The crane will be able to operate the entire dock area at Husøy, and is equipped for handling containers, bulk cargo and project loads. With a maximum lifting capacity of up to 154 tonnes and a maximum outreach of 54 metres, this crane will be the largest and strongest mobile harbour crane in Norway. The new machine will arrive by sea and will be completely assembled and ready for use when landing on Husøy.

Port Director Tore Gautesen states, “This is a great day for Karmsund Port, our customers, partners and the whole region. The crane will give the region completely new possibilities and will be a very important tool for creating increased activity. We are pleased with the agreement we have entered into with Liebherr, an agreement that guarantees us top-notch cranes in terms of quality and technology.”

The new crane was sold with a Liebherr service contract. The entire service concept, which includes short response times and fast delivery of spare parts if required, had a positive influence on the decision. Together with the Liebherr service contract, which is based on Liebherr’s market-leading service concept, this will ensure economic, stable and safe operation of the crane for the coming years.

“We are very proud to have received this further vote of confidence in our technology from JSSC Klaipedos Smelte,” said Roman Ivanov, Sales Manager, Port Solutions, Konecranes. “The relationship between JSSC Klaipedos Smelte and Konecranes is getting stronger. The new cranes will help JSSC Klaipedos Smelte to continue growing according to its long-term vision.”

The STS cranes will be Post-Panamax in size. They will have an outreach of 52 meters, a lifting capacity of 65 tons and a lifting height of 42 meters so they can serve the ultra-large container vessels that are planned for the Baltic sea.

The RTG cranes will be powered by gensets with an efficient fuel saving system and conductor bar readiness for future conversion to busbar electric power. They will be 16-wheel machines with a lifting capacity of 40 tons, stacking 1-over-6 containers high and 6 plus truck lane wide. They will be equipped with the Auto-steering feature, which keeps the crane on a pre-programmed, straight driving path. They will also have gantry and stack collision prevention systems.

JSSC Klaipedos Smelte is a stevedoring company that handles containers, heavy-lift and oversized cargo, frozen meat and fish products and other conventional cargo. The company is part of the worldwide container terminal network controlled by Terminal Investment Limited Sarl (TIL).

Liebherr has won another order to deliver a heavy lift crane, type HLC 150000 which will be used for the installation of jackets, monopiles and mono buckets for wind turbines as well as for decommissioning and heavy-duty transports. The crane is planned to be in operation on OHT’s semi-submersible offshore heavy transport vessel in 2020. Crane will be equipped with a foldable A-frame to allow passage under bridges. Rostock (Germany), July 2018 – Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH has been awarded the contract by the Oslo-based company Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT) and China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) to deliver a heavy lift crane for a new generation semi-submersible offshore windfarm foundation installation vessel. On July 6th CMHI and Liebherr signed the contract in China. Liebherr together with the Norwegian companies OHT, Ulstein Design & Solution BV, DNV-GL as well as Chinese shipyard CMHI are working to manufacture a unique vessel for applications in the wind energy sector, decommissioning, the installation of offshore platforms and for heavy-duty transports. CMHI, a well known manufacturer of offshore equipment and large vessels, is going to build the 216.3 meter long ship at its dockyard in Haimen on behalf of the heavy transport vessel operator, OHT.

Ship designing company Ulstein created the patented Alfa Lift concept in close cooperation with OHT.

“Since 2016 we have been working very closely with OHT targeting an efficient design to meet the project requirements and thereby decreasing the costs of installing windfarms on high seas. We have now succeeded in doing this and also achieved an optimal balance between weight and performance”, said Armin Seidel, Area Sales Manager for Offshore Cranes. “CMHI is a very competent partner and we look forward to future cooperation on the project”, Armin Seidel concludes.

OHT’s new semi-submersible vessel also provides an ultramodern installation concept which will influence and change the offshore market. Liebherr supports this with a HLC – the company’s latest crane series in the heavy lift sector. The HLC 150000 is able to lift up to 3,000 tonnes. Based on the company’s well proven crane design with slewing bearing, A-frame and lattice boom, the crane provides the highest reliability and flexibility. Its robust design withstands dynamic conditions and motions.

The 48,000 dwt installation vessel is able to submerge when in operation which increases the stability of the crane. As a result the HLC resists a wider variety of environmental scenarios and thus makes it possible to operate in almost any weather. With the combination of a large safe working load and a lattice boom more than 70 metres long, the crane will be ideal for the transport and installation of windfarm
foundations on high seas. This is supplemented by the space saving positioning on top of the ship’s bridge.

The crane features a foldable A-frame which makes passage under bridges possible. Due to this newly developed and intelligent concept, the vessel saves time and thereby also increases the operating times. Additionally the crane is equipped with several tugger winches and trolley hoist for optimal positioning of the load. Because of the availability to operate in split hook mode, the crane can carry 1,500 tonnes on each hook at the same time.

The crane will be produced and tested at the company’s production site in the port of Rostock/ Germany.
