Flexco has redesigned its Novitool Aero Splice Press – users can now splice conveyor belts even more reliably in just a few minutes

Every second costs money – and companies can really suffer financially when their plants unexpectedly come to a standstill. This is why Flexco has redesigned the Novitool Aero Splice Press and launched it onto the market. Users can now splice their PVC or PU conveyor belts – such as those used in the food industry – in just a few minutes. Thanks to the solution’s splice setting memory, high-quality results can also be consistently achieved – a particular boon for service companies.

All of the components for the splicing process are integrated into the press. The service technician simply removes the Novitool Aero from its box, plugs it in and starts working – a great time saver. During the redesigning process, Flexco technicians also widened the effective heat zone from 130 to 150 millimeters. This makes it even easier for the operator to position the splice within the press. He then uses two quick-clamping bars to anchor the material, completing the preparations for the splice.

Temperature, time and the pressure generated by the built-in compressor can be regulated by one single controller. The operator can separately regulate the temperatures for the upper and lower heating plates. This improves the quality of the splice for belts with fabric inlays or belts with very thin thermoplastic coatings. The temperature controller has a scrolling display with clear text messages to help the user navigate through the settings. The operator can also set the dwell time to the second. Other convenient features are an automatic dwell time countdown and a preheating cycle. Preheating is performed step-by-step and is 100% controlled. This improves the result if thicker or less thermally conductive belt materials are required. The faster processing also makes heating and cooling much more efficient and the splicing operation takes place automatically.

Flexco has integrated fans in both the top and bottom plates and has installed ventilation openings, all of which cool down the splice more quickly. “Our tests have shown that the faster the belt cools down, the better the splice holds,” says Michelle Graves, Product Manager at Flexco. This not only speeds up the work, it also improves the quality of the splice – and repair downtimes are reduced to a minimum.

In addition to entering the required data manually into the press, the Novitool Aero can now store more than 1,000 splice settings, which can be imported via a USB port. This is particularly convenient for service providers, since they can group the settings into relevant categories such as ‘customer’, ‘belt manufacturer’ or ‘material’. This ensures a consistently high splice quality, despite changing operating personnel. The Novitool Aero is available for belt widths of 625, 925, 1225, 1525, 1835 and 2135 millimeters.

The conditions in underground mining can be extreme for man and machine. The Flexco GmbH offers solutions that enable conveyor belt operators to improve their processes and considerably simplify maintenance and repair work in this harsh environment. At the Ugol Rossii & Mining trade fair, which will take place from 5 to 8 June in Novokuznetsk, Russia, the specialist company will also be showing the FLEXCO XP belt fasteners.

 The mechanical belt fasteners of the FLEXCO XP series have been specially developed for use in mining and underground operations. They are suitable for conveyor belts made of woven PVG/PVC up to a strength of 1,750 N/mm. Users can apply the fasteners with a hydraulic press, or manually without damaging the fibres. The flat design of the fasteners improves the approach for cleaning systems and reduces contact with side sealing profiles and return rollers. The system therefore wears more slowly, and the splices hold for considerably longer than those of comparative competitor systems. This enables mine operators to increase the productivity of their conveyor systems, as they have fewer breakdowns and less maintenance work.

TUG HD belt clamps are used to restrain or pull a conveyor belt and then hold it firmly in place.

To carry out maintenance work ergonomically, Flexco will be showing an efficient lifting device at the trade fair – the Flexlifter. The Flexlifter enables service personnel to hoist the tensioned belt on the system to the required height without physical exertion. The belt lifter can be loaded with up to three tonnes and is available in three sizes. And because of its particularly lightweight construction, the technician can move it about with ease.

At the Ugol Rossii & Mining trade fair, Flexco will also be providing information on its extensive range of scrapers – because where bulk material is conveyed, carryback is formed. For the operators of conveyor belt systems, this is a cost factor which is not to be underestimated. Scrapers free the belt of the adhering material. The components consist of a plastic or hard metal blade and a spring tensioning system that ensures optimum contact of the blade with the conveyor belt.

TUG HD belt clamps are used to restrain or pull a conveyor belt and then hold it firmly in place. Maintenance work becomes much simpler and safer. The user simply slides the aluminium clamp bar into the clamp ends and tightens the ends against the belt with trapezoidal screws. When the repair is finished, the screws are slowly loosened. The TUG HD applies a strong force that is evenly distributed over the entire belt width. To rule out hazards, the aluminium bars have a non-slip grip pattern that faces the belt surface. The safety factors of clamp ratings meet or exceed industry safety standards, as verified by third-party tests.

The belt clamps can be used on a variety of conveyor belts – for example, PVC belts or solid woven belts. They can also be used on multiple conveyor belting types, including flat, sidewall, chevron, and other specialty profiles. Two versions are available. The version with a six-tonne capacity rating is suitable for belt widths up to 1,800 mm and belt thicknesses up to 50 mm. The version for eight tonnes is designed for widths up to 2,400 mm and thicknesses up to 55 mm. The TUG HD can be used in a dual clamp set-up at two belt sections.
