Solutions for Maritime Bulk Handling

PEINER ship grabs – cost-efficient in procurement and operation

For 70 years PEINER grabs have been present on the market and are today distributed by PEINER SMAG Lifting Technologies GmbH, a global player among the suppliers of bulk handling equipment. Common is their dual scoop grabs suitable for the maritime sector. In addition to the universally applicable rope grabs for general cargo cranes, the company offers electro-hydraulic motor grabs, which are used for single rope cranes and require a power supply from the crane. The most widely used motor grab is the MZG/L series. High handling quantities per loading cycle is the outstanding feature of this type of grab. By means of power-controlled hydraulic pumps, the electrical power supply is very efficiently converted into handling power. The motor grab achieves an optimum filling degree through high closing forces. No matter if light, medium or heavy bulk materials – with its customized dual scoop design the grab copes with different materials to be handled. One key advantage is that the grab control can be integrated into the control of the crane and operated from the crane cabin.

Among the rope grabs, the radio-controlled single-rope grab (EGF), is the predestined ship grab. Many bulk carrier operators use this proven and continuously developed rope grab in the tough cargo handling business, for good reason: Using this model allows any shipboard or container crane to handle bulk material in the shortest possible time without additional equipment. Their major advantage: they can work without power supply from the crane – the operator just has to charge the batteries and the grab is ready for operation. The PEINER radio-controlled single-rope grab can be precisely controlled wirelessly with the portable, robust handheld terminal. It enables reliable, interference-free radio communication up to 500 m. High-performance accumulators of the remote control guarantee continuous operation for up to 24 hours and can be easily changed within a few minutes without any extra tools.

Mature technology for bulk handling worldwide

PEINER grabs can be found in almost every port of the world and is the leading brand for the loading and unloading of bulk carriers. The product portfolio ranges from mechanical four-rope grabs, electro-hydraulic motor grabs, radio-controlled single-rope grabs, hydraulic grabs, slewing units (rotators) to special lifting accessories. With regard to the specific demands in the shipping industry PEINER dual scoop grabs enable cost-effective loading and unloading of a broad range of cargo, such as coal, ore, minerals, grain, fertilisers etc. Scoops and lips are always adapted to the respective cargo. In addition, various sealing systems can be supplied to prevent spillage and dust emission. The application areas of various dual scoop grabs are as versatile as the bulk material: ports, cargo terminals, bulk carriers, industrial enterprises. PEINER motor and rope grabs are suitable for the use in rough bulk handling environments and can be operated in every climate. All components are resistant to water.
