SENNEBOGEN and DEUTZ engines
The two renowned German manufacturers, SENNEBOGEN Maschinenfabrik GmbH and DEUTZ AG, have been working together in the field of drive technology for construction machinery and material handling excavators since the 1950s. The collaboration is being expanded to exploit synergies between the two companies.
collaboration between two strong partners
As a traditional, family-run company, SENNEBOGEN Maschinenfabrik can look back on a 73-year history of success. With a wide range of solutions for the construction industry and material handling, the Lower Bavarian company plays a leading role in various sectors. With material handling excavators , telehandlers , cranes and rope excavators with an operating weight of up to 420 t, SENNEBOGEN offers its customers the greatest variety of industry- and customer-specific solutions.
With 161 years of tradition, DEUTZ AG is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of innovative drive systems . The Cologne-based manufacturer develops, produces, sells and maintains drive solutions in the power range up to 620 kW for off-highway applications. The Deutz brand has successfully established itself globally, particularly in the areas of increasing efficiency and reducing emissions, and in addition to high-quality diesel technology, it is also very progressive in its development in the field of hydrogen engines and electrification.
Already in the 1950s, they successfully cooperated
Even in the early years, the then senior boss Erich Sennebogen knew about the good strategic fit between the Bavarian machines and the Cologne engines. He installed the then Deutz 2-cylinder diesel engine with 22 hp in the early S802 and S803 cable excavators , and later the first hydraulic excavator from SENNEBOGEN, the SH40, was given the air-cooled Deutz 4-cylinder diesel engine with 49 hp. These drive solutions are still admired by many visitors today in the Erich Sennebogen Museum in the historical machines in Straubing.
Both companies developed very dynamically in the decades to come. SENNEBOGEN built many machines with DEUTZ engines, including large versions in cranes, rope excavators and hydraulic excavators, and delivered these to its customers worldwide .
Collaboration with a focus on efficiency and sustainability
SENNEBOGEN, with its enthusiasm for technology, has been investing in sustainable and energy-saving technologies for decades. For example, the Green Hybrid energy recovery system has been successfully used by our customers for over 12 years to significantly reduce fuel consumption . SENNEBOGEN has been implementing electric drive solutions in many different versions with great success for over 30 years.
Both companies, SENNEBOGEN and DEUTZ, have now decided to intensify their collaboration. This includes the installation of DEUTZ diesel engines in selected models of the wide SENNEBOGEN product range. SENNEBOGEN’s sales partners in the global sales regions receive the best support from DEUTZ’s worldwide service network . In addition, the collaboration will also focus on alternative drive concepts. Battery-electric and hydrogen-based drives offer a sustainable option for the future.
“We see many positive synergies in a more intensive collaboration. Especially in off-highway applications, we can implement new, future-oriented solutions together,” emphasizes Erich Sennebogen, managing partner at SENNEBOGEN. Thales Maia, CEO of DEUTZ EMEA, is also pleased about the collaboration: “It is great to see that we are reviving a historical collaboration between two traditional companies and at the same time are fully geared towards the future in terms of technology.” DEUTZ Germany is entrusted with the implementation.
