Press release: Faster, Safer and Smarter Bulk Pan Handling with E-Crane®

Adegem (BE) / Gallion (OH, USA) — August 26, 2025: E-Crane® has introduced an innovative tilting device that redefines how bulk materials such as scrap are loaded into ocean-going vessels.

Originally developed for demanding marine construction tasks like handling concrete blocks and placing foundation mats, this new tool is proving to be a game-changer in bulk logistics and scrap handling worldwide.

In ports, bulk materials are often stored in off-site yards and brought to the dock by dumper trucks. These dumpers unload their material directly into a large skip pan on the quay, eliminating the need for extra handling and stockpiling. The E-Crane® then lifts the filled pan and efficiently dumps it into the ship’s hold.

To make this operation more efficient, safer, and cost-effective, E-Crane® developed and extensively tested a brand-new tilting attachment purpose-built for bulk pan handling.

Its two synchronized tilting arms connect to the pan via chains, allowing the operator to discharge material quickly into the ship’s hold and then return the pan smoothly to a horizontal position for putting down on the dock. The result: a robust, user-friendly system that enhances both productivity and safety.

Designed for our larger E-Crane® models with lifting capacities of 30–50 tons, the tool mounts seamlessly beneath the standard hydraulic rotator and quick-change system, enabling pans to carry 20 to 30 tons of bulk material.

Key Benefits of the E-Crane® Tilting Device:

  • Direct efficiency – Dumper trucks unload directly into the skip pan, saving valuable time and avoiding extra stockpiling or re-handling.
  • Gentle handling – The chain suspension ensures a softer landing of the pan on the dock, minimizing wear on equipment and reducing stress for operators.
  • Service made easy – Like all E-Crane® tools, the attachment is designed with maintenance in mind. Operators can lower it to ground level for safe inspection and greasing.
  • Built for reliability – With only two small, well-protected hydraulic cylinders, the design is simple, durable, and cost-efficient to maintain.
  • Safe and controllable – Operators quickly gain confidence in managing discharge kickback, which is a major advantage when working inside ship holds or near hatch coamings.
  • Flexible and cost-effective – Compatible with a wide range of skip pans, the attachment delivers strong performance at a very competitive cost.

With this new tilting device, E-Crane® once again demonstrates its commitment to delivering practical, operator-friendly solutions that boost productivity, enhance safety, and minimize operating costs.
