Offshore cable excavator supports port construction
Located just 40 kilometers west of Seoul, South Korea, Incheon New Port is undergoing a major expansion as part of the Incheon New Port Stage 1-2 project. The goal of this expansion is to increase the port’s capacity and modernize its facilities to accommodate growing cargo volumes and larger container ships. With the completion of the new container terminal, the port’s handling capacity is expected to increase to five million TEU by 2030, with the terminal scheduled for completion in 2025.
Dredging work and construction of a quay
Gwan-Ak Co., Ltd. was commissioned to dredge and construct the lower structure of the Phase 1-2 container wharf at Incheon New Port. Founded in 1998, Gwan-Ak Co., Ltd. is a South Korean company specializing in a range of construction services, including underwater construction, dredging, reinforced concrete work, earthworks, scaffolding removal, and borehole grouting . The company has been listed on the Korea New Exchange (KONEX) since 2015.
Offshore lifting operations from the ship
Gwan-Ak’s SENNEBOGEN 6300E is mounted on a ship in the Yellow Sea and is playing a key role in the construction of the container port. The impressive offshore duty cycle crawler crane is designed to precisely lift and maneuver heavy loads, enabling rapid assembly operations and maintaining high productivity on the construction site.
After the excavation work, the crane’s capabilities are used for precise load handling .
From the ship , the cable excavator lifts and positions the heavy concrete formwork used to construct the port apron.
The formwork is then assembled at the designated positions and filled with concrete. The crane is in operation 8 hours a day, although the work is sometimes dependent on weather conditions.
the largest duty cycle crawler crane in the SENNEBOGEN range
The SENNEBOGEN 6300 is the largest duty cycle crawler crane in the SENNEBOGEN range and boasts a high load capacity of up to 300 tons. This makes lifting large concrete formwork child’s play.
Its hydraulic drives and modern control system ensure that heavy materials can be positioned precisely and quickly.
Reliable track record with SENNEBOGEN
The SENNEBOGEN sales and service partner, KILWOO Co. Ltd., recommended the SENNEBOGEN 6300 E to Gwan-Ak due to its high load capacity, technical suitability for the project requirements, and the positive experience with SENNEBOGEN as the manufacturer.
This ship- mounted dragline crane, equipped with a 2.5 m high pylon and a 46.7 m long boom, is the first crane Gwan-Ak has purchased for its own use. It was delivered in 2023 and installed in South Korea. This is an exception to the usual practice in Korea, where offshore cranes are typically 20 to 30 years old, secondhand, and often sourced from Japan.
“SENNEBOGEN duty cycle crawler cranes are known for their performance and reliability. With a safe load capacity of up to 300 tons, the SENNEBOGEN 6300 E is particularly well-suited for heavy lifting. Customers also appreciate the ease of maintenance and easy access to spare parts.”
