New SENNEBOGEN duty cycle crawler crane with 220 tonnes load capacity

At this year’s bauma, SENNEBOGEN is also expanding its range of heavy-duty duty cycle crawler cranes and is introducing a new model with a lifting capacity of 220 tonnes and a maximum boom length of 74.7 m in lifting operation: the SENNEBOGEN 6220 E. The new crawler crane impresses with its performance, flexibility and safety and is designed for a wide range of applications.

SENNEBOGEN draws on more than 73 years of experience in the development and design of duty cycle crawler cranes . With the new 220-ton 6220 E, SENNEBOGEN is now expanding its range in the upper size class, closing the gap between the 140-ton 6140 E and the 300-ton 6300 E.

Diverse range of applications thanks to modular configuration

The new 220 t duty cycle crawler crane impresses with its enormous versatility and is designed for a wide range of heavy-duty applications, as it can be customized to meet the customer’s specific needs. Depending on requirements, customers can choose between a 563 kW or the larger 708 kW Stage V engine. Various attachments and ballast variations are also available, depending on whether the crane is used as an excavator or crane. The crawler crane demonstrates its strengths particularly in the offshore sector and for dredging , where, for example, the higher engine power and more ballast enable it to operate with exceptional stability and reliability under the toughest conditions , even at inclinations of up to 4 degrees.

In addition, the machine can be equipped with additional hydraulics for various attachments and there are several winch options, ranging from 30 t or 35 t free fall winches and an option with 2 x 20 t double winches , to further additional winches for a wide variety of applications. For the necessary precision when carrying out grab work, the duty cycle crawler crane can also be equipped with an extra strong 6 t grab stabilizing winch with 60 kN pulling force . With a fairlead and dragline bucket, however, the machine is used for mining work . In civil engineering , the robust boom design and high lifting capacities enable the operation of a hydraulic hammer, leader rig, vibrator or even a diaphragm wall grab without any problems. A piping connection can also be configured , and use in a steelworks with a drop ball or demolition work with a wrecking ball is also possible.

Strong load-bearing and tensile forces

When it comes to lifting capacities, the 6220 E demonstrates its capabilities in both grab and hoist operations , offering impressive values across its entire working range. Furthermore, load charts are available for 2° or 4° inclination. The increased rope capacity on the first layer also allows the duty cycle crane to work particularly deep with the maximum pulling force of its free-fall winches, i.e., 350 kN. This also significantly reduces rope wear. Considerable weight savings were achieved by using aramid guy wires instead of steel cables on the main boom . The standard version of the machine also features two slewing gears, which ensure an extremely strong slewing moment of 585 kN .

The driver is the focus: safety concept and comfort

During the development of the 220 t duty cycle crawler crane, the focus was also on the operator and their daily work with the machine. Like all SENNEBOGEN duty cycle crawler cranes, the 6220 E is equipped with the ergonomically sophisticated Maxcab spacious cab , which offers proven all-round comfort and can be tilted by 20 degrees as standard, ensuring the operator always has an optimal view of the work area. Optionally, the duty cycle crawler crane can also be equipped with a 2.0 m hydraulically elevating cab – a feature that is particularly useful in dredging applications.

The safety concept has also been further optimized. This includes, among other things, the standard boom-mounted height safety device. To ensure safe access to all areas of the machine, the optional railings and walkways on the superstructure, as well as the access steps themselves, have also been redesigned. Additional step grates are also available as an option. The undercarriage assembly and reeving adjustments can also be performed conveniently and safely via remote control.

Machine control with SENCON Load Control

The new SLC – SENCON Load Control machine control system integrated into the machine is another highlight in terms of user-friendliness. The SLC is a separate control system developed according to automotive standards . Its intuitive and clear structure makes operating the machine significantly easier for the driver. The new system complements the existing SENCON (SENNEBOGEN Control System) control system and displays all important data related to the lifting process on a separate touchscreen display, along with load moment limitation . There is also a ground pressure display calculated in real time. Diagnostic data for the machine and engine can still be found in the SENCON as usual.

Stable Starlifter undercarriage and self-assembly system

The Starlifter undercarriage of the 6220 E has a track width of 6400 mm and a track length of 9280 mm. It is equipped with 1000 mm flat track pads as standard , giving it exceptional stability. For even greater stability, the undercarriage can be equipped with additional undercarriage ballast. The tracks can be removed for transport, giving the crane a transport weight of approximately 65 t . Upon arrival at the next job site, they can be conveniently reattached using the self-assembly system via radio remote control.

Presentation at bauma 2025

The 6220 E, equipped with a mechanical two-rope grab for underwater or dredging applications, will be exhibited as one of the new cranes at the SENNEBOGEN stand at bauma : from April 7 to 13, 2025, at the outdoor area FM.712, Messe München.
