Description
For over two decades Portpack UK Limited have provided solutions for direct discharge operations in Ports throughout the world.
Portpack specialise in the design and manufacture of containerised mobile bagging systems, our team of engineers have been fully conversant with Portpack’s core product the PP2000 Mobile Bagging Unit since its conception. Each member of the Portpack team and Portpack’s consultants have over 40 years’ experience in the weighing and bagging sector.
Our Mobile Bagging unit, can be supplied in different configurations to suit our customer’s specific requirements. The PP2000 and the PPEW2000 models are both configured to have a bagging line feeding out of each end, while the PP2000SE and the PPEW2000SE models are configured so that the two bagging lines feed out of the same end. Weighers can be either mechanical level system, electro-pneumatic type or twin loadcell electro-pneumatic type, with digital weight display.
Portpack produce a belt-fed variant of the standard machine for handling non-free flowing products, these products can be powdery, flakey cereals, salt, meals and irregular shaped. The Belt-Feeders extract the products from a feed hopper using a two speed belt feeder which is then regulated by twin feed gates into the weighpan. This is a slower process than gravity weighing by virtue of the extra control of the material.
In addition to the Mobile Bagging Unit, Portpack manufacture the following accessories:- Two piece Top Grab Loading Hopper loaded by clamshell grabs, Inclined Conveyor systems which feeds the Mobile Bagging Unit comprising of a Inclined Mobile Troughed Belt Conveyor and Ground Feeding Hopper loaded from stockpile. Portpack’s height adjustable Inclined Lorry Loading Conveyors use either a manual winch system (wire rope and pulley) to raise and lower the conveyor or the hydraulic conveyor which is raised and lowered via a hydraulic pump unit.
Portpack’s equipment is built in the United Kingdom by an experienced team of engineers all of whom have been employed in the weighing and bagging sector for over thirty years and are involved in Portpack’s product range at all stages to varying degrees from conception to completion.
Portpack UK Limited hold the following standards Quality Management System Standard ISO9001:2015 and Environmental Management System Standard ISO14001:2015 approved by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.
The predominant use of the Mobile Bagging unit is the direct discharge of bulk carriers in the port of arrival, with filled sealed bags being loaded directly onto trucks for onward distribution or delivery. The Mobile Bagging Units are positioned alongside the vessel where free-flowing, dry bulk materials such as food grains and granular fertilisers are unloaded directly from the vessel using clamshell grabs, the material is then released into the material feed hopper which is situated on top of the Mobile Bagging system. The materials are then weighed and discharged, into open mouthed bags, which are then stitched, discharged onto Incline Conveyors for loading onto trucks. Our systems have been designed to operate continuously during discharge operations, in the most hostile environmental conditions.
In addition to direct discharge operations the Mobile Bagging Unit can be utilised in the reclaiming of materials from stockpiles, which can be situated outside as is often the case with food grains, or inside in the case of Fertilisers in a go down or warehouse. The Mobile Bagging unit is identical in specification to those used in direct discharge operations, it is the feeding of the material into the Mobile Bagging plant that differs, this is normally carried out using a ground loading hopper feeding into an inclined conveyor, which in turn feeds directly into the top container buffer hopper.
The Mobile Bagging units can be used inside factories to supplement existing Fixed Plant facilities, due to an increase in output of the plant, equipment failure, redundancy of existing bagging plant, or to supplement silo bagging, advantages are that no additional structural civils are required to integrate the Mobile Bagging plant. To provide instant bagging production, the units only require a material feed to be diverted into the unit.
We have supplied a number of Mobile Bagging units to fertiliser factories who have a seasonal requirement for increased output, and also to grain silos to enable them to bag externally from silos at the same time as the internal fixed plants are still operating.
Portpack have devised a portfolio of aftercare services designed to provide continuing support and assistance to our customers. Our portfolio includes Maintenance/Service Contracts of varying levels, a global Spare Parts Service and Training Programmes for equipment Supervisors and Operators alike.
2007 saw Portpack being honoured with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. This was followed in 2008 with Business of the Year a Civic Award presented to Portpack by Ashfield District Council.
