PEINER SMAG Lifting Technologies GmbH is the worldwide leading manufacturer of grabs and other lifting equipment. The range of products includes bulk cargo and container handling as well as special hoists.

Key areas of action are ports, ships, manufacturers of cranes and construction machinery, steel mills, waste-to-energy plants and recycling/scrap handling industries. Based on the proven PEINER product design PEINER SMAG’s factories in Salzgitter (Germany, Headquarters), Shanghai (China), Chennai (India) and Singapore develop and manufacture lifting equipment for any cargo handling application.

In 2015 PEINER SMAG added spreaders for container handling to its portfolio. The new subsidiary RAM SMAG Lifting Technologies Pte Ltd, headquartered in Singapore, manufactures the products under its well-established brand RAM Spreaders in Changshu (China). The spreaders are used in ports and terminals worldwide.

PEINER Grabs can be found everywhere where materials are handled, moved or positioned, and is particularly the world’s leading brand for the loading and unloading of bulk carriers. The success story of the PEINER Grabs began in 1951, with the building of the first grab – a mechanical 200 liter single-rope grab. Today, PEINER SMAG offers a complete product range: mechanical four-rope grabs, electro-hydraulic motor grabs, radio-controlled single-rope grabs, hydraulic grabs, slewing units (rotators) as well as a wide range of special lifting accessories.

Today new designs and alternative materials are continuously brought into serial production. An example of the current development is a radio controlled single rope grab with a capacity of 60 m³ used for the operation with container cranes.

PEINER SMAG strives to keep the environmental impact associated with the use of grabs as small as possible. A number of features allows to minimise the loss of bulk materials. In addition to dust covers, they include special sealing systems on the side and bottom lips. The use of steel sealing strips, rubber-sealed lips, overlapping bottom and side lips or special side toothing prevents bulk materials from trickling down. In contrast to the competitors, our four-rope dual scoop grabs are also designed with just one, rather than two scoop pivot points. This affects the closing of the scoops positively by ensuring a synchronous closing and excluding any offset between scoops.

For many years now, the use of water-based paints and the option of a central lubrication system also provide a further contribution to environmental protection. The harmonious matching of electrical and hydraulic components allows to use smaller motors than those in models of other suppliers.
