Slovenian seaport continues to modernize operations with repeat order for four electric Konecranes RTGs
Longstanding customer Luka Koper has ordered four more Konecranes electric Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes for its container terminal at Slovenia’s Port of Koper. This follows the 2024 order of four identical Konecranes electric RTGs. The new crane order was booked in Q3 2025 and hand-over is planned for Q2 2026.
Luka Koper operates Slovenia’s only cargo seaport, a key Adriatic gateway to Central and Eastern Europe. The company is continuously investing in its container terminal, with a strong focus on lowering emissions and improving efficiency.
The four new electric Konecranes RTGs will replace several older diesel units currently running in the container yard. Power will be provided by cable reel systems connected to the local grid, with onboard battery packs included for stack changing. Each crane will feature Konecranes’ Truck Lift Prevention for enhanced safety during container handling.
“This latest order builds on a relationship that has grown over many years, based on proven results and shared eco-efficiency goals. The new Konecranes RTGs support our modernization program by combining reliable performance with lower emissions,” says Edvin Boskin, Container Terminal Technical Manager at Luka Koper.
The company already operates an extensive fleet of Konecranes equipment, including 32 Konecranes RTGs and four Konecranes Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes, one of which has been retrofitted with a Remote Operating Station.
“By ordering the same type of electric Konecranes RTGs as last year, Luka Koper can scale its modernization program even faster. This repeat order shows how ports can enhance daily operations and reach eco-efficiency targets,” says Philipp Reiter, Regional Sales Manager, Konecranes Port Solutions.
This contract is part of Ecolifting, Konecranes’ vision to increase its handprint – meaning the beneficial environmental impact that can be achieved with our product and service portfolio – while reducing customers’ carbon footprints. From eco-optimizing diesel drives, to hybridization and fully-electrified fleets, we will continue to do more with less.
A strong focus on customers and commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes a material handling industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalization and technology, plus our work to make material flows more efficient with solutions that support the decarbonization of the economy and advance circularity and safety.
