CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal acquires 6 new RTGs from Konecranes

• These 6 RTGs from Konecranes are part of the investment plan that CSP Spain is undertaking in 2020-2023
• The investment plan presented by the company in June is a firm commitment to Valencia, as a strategic port for international maritime traffic and a boost to overcome the Covid-19 crisis
• The capacity of the terminal will increase by 30% in order to meet the expected demand in the next 15 years

As CSP Spain announced last June, with the 2020-2023 plan it is undertaking an investment plan with a spending forecast of more than 62 million euros in the port of Valencia. This is a new commitment to the Valencian container terminal, focused on increasing its competitiveness by improving its offering and capacity.

The 6 Konecranes RTGs that were offloaded last Monday, with assembly and erection starting immediately in the CSP Spain Terminal in Valencia, is an important part of this investment plan.

The main objective is to improve service to the terminal users. The terminal has a yard of ​​145 hectares, thanks to a 15-hectare extension that went into service last December.

The 6 new cranes are Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes with steel structures weighing 135t. Their main features are: 41t load capacity, lifting height up to 18.1m (5 + 1 containers), and gauge between the legs for 6 containers and truck passage.

They are state-of-the-art machines, with proven reliability and productivity, of a type already working in the terminals of the Port of Valencia.

These all-electric Konecranes RTGs are very eco-efficient thanks to efficient diesel engines with an advanced Diesel Fuel Saver system, 100% LED lighting, and low maintenance needs.

The 6 Konecranes RTGs will enter service during the last quarter of this year once assembly and erection operations are completed.

Along with this new equipment, CSP Spain’s investment plan in Valencia includes the acquisition of 3 “MalaccaMax” type Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, which will arrive in the last quarter of 2022, a further 8 new RTGs that will be added to the 6 new RTGs already arrived, the implementation of Navis4 as a new Terminal Operating System (TOS) and the purchase of more equipment such as lift trucks, reach stackers and empty container handlers.

This investment plan, together with the more than 100 million euros already invested in the last 5 years, will allow the port to be more competitive at all levels and increase its operating capacity by 30% to 5 million TEUs from the current approximately 2.5 million TEUs.

It is an investment that aims to be a stimulus for the sector and an economic boost for recovery after the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.
